Is this Twilighty?

Hi all, Am looking to find a new series to watch and came across this. I like shows such as AHS,Haven,Supernatural, Grimm. I was just wondering,as it's a spin off from The Vampire Diaries,is it like Twilight or more like Anne Rice? I'm not judging at all,just wanted an idea. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Besides the magical miracle baby, I think it's safe to say that The Originals is vastly different than Twilight, and much better. I hope you decide to watch it, I think it's great.

It is a little more 'mature' than Twilight & VD. I couldn't get into VD because it seemed to geared toward teen girls. But I started watching TO about the 3rd episode of the 1st season and for the most part it has been enjoyable, except for Davina & Cami I like the cast and the story lines. It's a shame it ends after this very short season that starts on March 17th.

Thanks,I watched the first two last night and really enjoyed them. Like you I found VD a bit teeny but I actually really enjoyed The originals.How many seasons are there?

Since it is a spinoff from TVD, it would help to have watched that to get some of the history, but not totally necessary. TO is a stand-alone show. I think it's even better than TVD ever was, even at its best. And the premise of TO leaves the door open for a longer run, as long as the writers don't get too ridiculous. So far, after 3 seasons, I don't think they've strayed at all. It's still just as solid now as it was in the beginning.

Seasons 2-4 of TVD give a pretty good history of the characters in The Originals (mainly Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah), but it's not required to fully understand the plot. For example, you'd see why Tyler (who you will see later in the season) and Klaus have such a hatred for each other. I don't care for the baby plot, but other than that, I think it's slightly better than TVD and waaaay better than Twilight.
