I was speculating on why Melissa would cut her wrist, since to me it doesn't make much sense, unless when she was on the phone with her mother her mother blamed her for her father's death. After all, her parents seemed to have no problem with Melissa having to prostitute herself for her father. That's when I realized there's not one decent parent on this show.

The Fathers:

Jim -- he's hard on Wyatt and easy on Amanda and had he listened to Kathryn and forced Amanda to get some help maybe she'd be alive today.

David -- even after learning Veronica had his son beaten up he was still singing, "Veronica, you is my woman."

Quincy -- abused his son.

The Mother's

Candace -- left her child in the hospital for days and never visited him and was going to have him put in the system just so Hanna couldn't have him.

Hanna -- it doesn't help matters when you address your daughter as devil and you need to kick Benny out of the nest and let this man-child grow-up instead of coddling him.

Kathryn -- she coddled Wyatt and was hard on Amanda.

Veronica -- won't accept her child's sexuality and acts like she owns him cause she pushed him out of her body.

Celine -- instead of giving up on Jim and trying to build a decent life for her kids she kept panting after the dude that she pushed out two kids by and who still wouldn't leave his wife.

Pearl -- bigoted busybody.

There's not one decent parent in this lot. So Melissa's mother laying some guilt trip on Melissa for her father's death seems to fit with the type of parents in this show. I mean, come on, Tyler, how about a little balance.
