Diskutuj o Endeavour

The ninth series is the last and now we know how and why Morse became an embittered bachelor, who never spoke of Thursday or Joan in the original series "Inspector Morse (1987-2000)".

All that remains is this haunting hypnotic theme score, a lump in my throat and just... sadness. frowning

Somewhat actor Anton Lesser ("Bright").

Put him in modern clothes & a pair of glasses, voila, Anton Lesser. But I'm glad I'm not the only one to see it. Maybe they are related?

The resemblance didn't immediately occur to me, but readily did when I looked again a little while later and ever since.

He was a part of one of the 'dle' type games that I play every day, 'Yeardle'. I googled him & when I clicked the image on the main page, it came to me right away.

Somehow I missed this discussion from months ago. And now the time has come -- last night, the final season began on my PBS station. I suppose at some point I'll start at the beginning and work my way through Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis again, but I'm very sad to see Endeavour come to an end. There's been more character development in this series than in the others. I guess a good prequel requires it. But it wasn't just Endeavor that we got to know better -- many of the regulars have become familiar and beloved too. The series has definitely benefited from the goodwill earned by Morse and Lewis -- who knew when we first started watching Morse way back when that we were in store for such a treat, and for so many years? It's the end of an era, that's for sure.😩😥😪😭

I don't know when I'll be able to see it. I refuse to pay for PBS passport (my tax dollars already give them money) & my local PBS stations have weakened the signals so much I can barely get them now!

bratface, I subscribed to PBS Passport for a year, several years ago. I was expecting to be able to stream shows on our smart TVs but it didn't work! I couldn't load the app on any of our TVs (seems it required newer models) and so I could only stream shows on my home office desktop. Truly a bother. We've also noticed our TV volume needs to be cranked up on PBS channels.

Endeavour and Inspector Lewis are included in Amazon's PBS Masterpiece subscription ($6/month I think); Inspector Morse is included in Amazon's BritBox subscription ($8/mo). A 7-day free trial is offered for both I think -- you could watch Season 9's 3 episodes that way for free after PBS finishes broadcasting it. Right now, only the first episode of Season 9 is available on Amazon. OR you could buy each episode for $3 without subscribing (I think), again, once PBS finishes airing them.

Thanks Merry. I wasn't a huge fan of Inspector Morse, loved Lewis (mostly because of Hathaway until Fox made a huge ass of himself), & really liked Endeavour (hated his mustache in season 6 though). I'll just wait until I can get it from the library. They have seasons 1-7 at my library but I was hoping it was available through Hoopla, that way I don't have to go to the library.

@brat, I believe you should be able to watch each most-recent episode, free of charge, on the regular PBS website during the week or two after the episode premieres.

bratface, you don't have to go to the library for Amazon's free trial either. Just sayin...

Ditto about Endeavour's mustache -- I recall your description of it as a "70s porn 'stache" or something of the sort. LOL 😁

I still like Laurence Fox, but I've long since reached the point where I generally ignore entertainers' opinions. Same goes for writers. The most talented of them are often the most obnoxious. For instance, Cormac McCarthy died recently. His masterpiece, Blood Meridian, is truly great but I read something years ago suggesting his many ex-wives considered him a royal jerk (a much more profane term than "jerk" was the actual description).

BTW I started a new discussion about Season 9. There are a few spoilers as usual, if you're interested bratface.

Thanks Gen.

You're very welcome, brat.

@merry, I watched Sunday night's season premiere when it aired on t.v. I'll comment on it in probably the next day or two.

Thanks again, Merry.

Just finished this series...

I'm a big Fred Thursday fan! Thought he was outstanding.

Talking about a "layered" character...! He's one of the best I've seen in a series.
