Discussão Mission: Impossible

I don't know if any of you heard about this. Last week while filming Mission Impossible 7 in London, Tom Cruise saw during filming a scene that some of the crew weren't practicing social distancing the way he'd like them to. So he stopped filming and yelled at the crew about the subject. It was pretty long, and he called the crew "f*kers and "motherfkers" a lot of times. He also stated that if it wasn't for him and the Mission Impossible 7 movie, "you motherf*kers wouldn't have a job".

I thought that it was digusting. If you want to make sure that the people who are helping you to make your movie are practicing social distancing, that's fine, but it's unacceptable to curse at them and berate them. Tom Cruise needs to remember that if wasn't for the crew on the Mission Impossible movies (which are the highest grossing films that he appears in), HE wouldn't have a job and be a movie star.

I'm so disgusted about his behavior that although I will keep my DVD's of MI III, Rogue Nation and Fallout, I will not buy the other 3 MI movies in the series and I will definitely NOT watch Mission Impossible 7 or 8 when they are released. As far as I'm concerned, Tom Cruise crossed a red line, and I'm not having it.

He is producer on the film and I believe half a dozen members of the film crew were already in isolation as a result of catching the virus. So from his perspective people not bothering to follow very basic guidance are jeopardising any chance of the production going to schedule (with potential financial and health implications). So I can understand why he was really annoyed.

However, if he was working in any environment where there was workers rights he'd likely be facing disciplinary action. He should have just politely said that if saw those people breaking rules again then he'd have them dismissed, or just politely had them fired on the spot if this wasnt the first infraction.

Exactly! I understand his intentions (as you pointed out), but there are times that it's not what you say, but the way you say it.

He has a lot riding on it so I can see it from both sides.

No, the speech in general was appropriate, but the cursing and making the crew feel like dirt was definitely NOT APPROPRIATE. They're having enough problems during the coronavirus pandemic without having to be cursed out by Tom Cruise, who doesn't have to worry about losing his job or his house because of the pandemic. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

"I want from you that which is rightfully mine. Your loyalty, your tribute, and your worship. Defy me and you will feel my wrath. You will learn discipline. You'll all be provided for, cared for, happy."

Tom Cruise is considered to be a god, saviour of the free world.

Despite all these rumours, I still like most of his action, science fiction and fantasy movies.

I don't think he went far enough.

Consider this: In order to surpass the original series of 172 fifty-minute episodes of Mission: Impossible, Tom Cruise will need to make 72 two-hour movies.

Irrelevant? Just as much as Tom Cruise is, to the real Mission: Impossible.

It's not the worst rant in movie history. I'm sure if they created a movie star meltdown category of Top Trumps it would be Christian Bale getting the top scores. He'd at least get 10s for both length and volume.

Cruise's rant wasn't without reason so I wouldn't condemn him for it. He'd only get about a 3 for irrationality.

@lima-2: It just really bothered me. As I've said before on this thread, I understand why Tom Cruise got angry. Whatever anyone else says, he didn't need to curse at them and berate them. Tom Cruise also basically said that he is the only one who can save the movie industry and if Mission Impossible doesn't get completed or released, the WHOLE entertainment industry goes down the drain. What hubris that man has.

Ok, yeah, that part sounds pretty bad. For arrogance he gets a 10.

I chose that link, because it is easily accessible to everyone - including non-English users - and the wording is simple and understandable. There are other sources, including Scientology's, with similar content.

@JustinJackFlash: Thank you!

"When I work, I work very hard. So I look to work with people who have that level of dedication. And I depend on that from everyone. From the director to my crews that I work with."

"I didn't become an actor to have power, but it just happens that I have it and so I have a lot of opportunities."

I'm doing something of a heel face turn on this subject after hearing the following TC didn't seem entirely worried about the crew, so much as he is suffering delusions that the fate of Hollywood is riding on his shoulders. That's an argument that anyone from the producers of Wonder Woman , to Dune, to the Bond movies could make at present. You're an important asset Cruise, but you''re one of many. I won't fault the guy for having an outsized ego. Most of us probably would, if we'd been deified to the degree than he has

Tom Cruise, the great American hero:

"Look at me. I suffer for the industry. I'm here to save Hollywood. If I need to abuse crew members to do it, I'm great enough to take that responsibility."

"I have the power, therefore I do not need empathy, compassion, understanding, diplomacy skills, decorum, wit, intelligence, thoughtful reasoning or common sense."

"I can win, simply through my position."

"So, I'm sorry. I am beyond your apology. I have told you and now I want it and if you don't do it, you're out."
