Break is the first episode of season seven, which would turn out to be Mission: Impossible's final one. This is also the first appearance of Barbara Anderson as Mimi Davis, an paroled ex-con who appears in seven episodes as a substitute Femme Fatale for Casey, who spends nearly half of the season working on separate assignments in Europe (as we all know, in reality Linda Day George was on Maternity Leave).
The IMF's mission in this episode is to recover a watch with vital information in it from the dead body of an undercover Federal Agent who was killed while investigating Dutch Krebs, a New Orleans hoodlum who among other things rigs billard games.
Mimi is recruited as she knows Krebs, and before she was sent to prison for 4 years (it's never revealed why she went to prison and never mentioned again after this), was the girlfriend of Krebs right-hand man, Press Allen. After the team successfully completes the mission, Mimi is released from parole 2 years early, and asked by Jim if she'd like to help the IMF from time to time while Casey is in Europe on a important long term assignment. Of course she says yes.
I really enjoyed this episode. It's a great introduction for Mimi's character, who has a very different background from any female IMF agent before her (with the possible exception of Ariana from season one's Zubronick's Ghost). Barbara Anderson does a terrific job. The thing that made me laugh though, is how Jim explains (at least twice) why Casey isn't there. Again, as all Honorary IMF Agents know, the producers did this after the fan reaction when they tried to get rid of Peter Lupus in season five. I recommend this episode to everyone.

Brilliant! It has been several years, maybe even decades, since I have seen this epiosde. But I do recall many of the specifics you mention, Maria. Spot on. It basically breaks the well-established Geller formula of: "don't explain anything!" No reason was ever given for Dan Briggs, Rollin Hand, Cinnamon Carter, Paris, or Dana leaving. Or for the arrival of Doug Robert, or temporary disappearance of Willy Armitgage. Thanks for the reminders and the recommendation. I'll have to check it out of the library again, not only for the great episode, but for all the reason you mention. Surely a clue, too, that this was going to be the last season? Could be.

I'm glad you liked it, lima-2. When I signed up for CBS All Access so I could watch season two of Discovery, I also received an archive of a lot classic CBS shows to watch. Hope to talk to you again soon. Don't be such a stranger!
