Discuss Mission: Impossible

This thread is dedicated to Peter Lupus, aka Willie Armitrage. IMHO, I think that he was the most beloved character in Classic Mission Impossible history. Willie was a giant Teddy Bear, always doing whatever he was asked to do, even if it was incredibly silly, without complaint. What is your favorite Willie episode?

I am a huge fan of willie. i don't recall him ever having an episode dedicated to him where we got to see the personal side of his life. I think they should've

@Jayhn1111 spy I totally agree with you. I was always annoyed that Willie never had an episode where he had a love interest. The closest he ever had to that was a sixth season episode (I can't remember the name of it), when he was captured while on a mission. The nurse that was assisting the doctor who was torturing him, eventually was talked by Willie into freeing him, and she left with him and the rest of the team at the end, but that was it.

@Jayhn1111 wink I just remembered something Peter Lupus had said about Willie is that if he and Greg Morris were going to have keep hiding inside big containers, they'd have to get engaged!

BTW, do you remember the TV series Police Squad? It starred Leslie "don't call me Shirley" Neilsen and Peter Lupus was his sidekick.

------Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night-------

@Jayhn1111 wink I was just thinking about how now the only members of the original cast, Peter Lupus and Barbara Bain are still alive. I don't mean to sound morbid, but lately I keep dreading that when I read the paper every day there'll be an obituary about one of them. Sometimes people I know think that it's weird for me to be so obsessed over a tv show that aired 50 years ago.

I lived in Ireland and lived to talk about from September 1967 to April 1969. The first American TV show I saw was Mission Impossible. For some reason I fell in love with the show and the characters. My first crush was on Peter Graves. I know I'm rambling, but I thought, what the hell?

Unfortunately it's at that period where everybody is up around the same age :( But television is timeless in the sense that these shows live on with dvd's and streaming. This will always be my favorite show no matter what.

@Jayhn1111 grinning It's my favorite show, too. But following close behind are Star Trek, Hawaii 5-0, and MI5.

Do you like the new hawaii 5-0 too? I usually favor the classics but I think it's very good.

@Jayhn1111 grinning I was only able to watch about 2 1/2 seasons of it. But I really liked it until I found that Daniel Dai Kim and Grace Park were leaving because of money. I'm very bummed out. One thing that I like about Scott Caan is how his Danny talks to Steve. In the original show, Danny would never, never talk to Steve that way. It cracks me up.

THere's a lot of chemistry and great dialogue with these characters. I'll be sorry to see it end, but it was a great run

@Jayhn1111 cry I'm really annoyed how the producers think that Hawaii 5-0 can survive without Chin Ho Kelly.

I believe it is the last season unfortunately

@Jayhn1111 : That sucks.

I can't cite a favorite ep featuring Willie, but he he's always been one of my fave characters. My dad's as well IIRC. Barney Collier (Greg Morris) was absolutely bad ass when it came to things technological. But, when it came to raw strength, Willie was THE MAN. I really like the idea that, as clever as the IMF team was, once in a while they needed good old brute force. However, though he was built like Optimus Prime, Willie wasn't your stereotypical big, dumb oaf. He was actually pretty sharp. He had no trouble assuming whatever his cover was. Peter Lupus did a wonderful job playing him. Were I an IMF team member on a hairy mission , I'd definitely want Willie covering my back.

@Jetfire59 100 Truer words were never spoken. I felt that Willie deserved his own thread. He really never gets any appreciation for his contribution to the series.

You're right, MK. Peter and Willie are way overlooked when the subject is MI. I'm sure there are many MI fans who love him as we do. He'll never be forgotten by us.
