that sometimes bugs me, is that once we find out he was (always) going to be Valen, it becomes clear that he never could have died previously. His life was never really in danger, even if neither he nor anyone around him, knew it at the time. Maybe it's silly, somehow, but that strikes me as something of a cheat.
