I'm guessing they get more interesting as they (at least Maggie) become major characters but yeesh. It's like all Maggie does is fret over pop and push her lousy coffee on everyone. Also, I could have sworn the actor changed. The first few episodes showed Maggie as a mod-looking blonde with raccoon eyes and then suddenly she's a drab brunette with a pony tail. But apparently only one actor ever played the role. Such a stark change in appearance that is never addressed.
Also, maybe I'm the only one, but I liked the original Sam better than the recast. Anyone know why the change? It's odd also that the Sam #2 actor was also married to Nancy (Carolyn) Barrett although that might have happened later.

It's been 2016 since I watched any of the earliest episodes - and the first DVDs collection I own is missing the first disc from the first set. So where my collections begin is right around the time when the Barnabas era begins, therefore when all the supernatural happenings get up and running.
I can vouch that the Maggie storyline really picks up major steam from then on. She always has been one of my very fave characters in the series.

If so inclined, you can catch the early episodes on Prime or (for free) on Tubi and Pluto. I would say Elizabeth Collins Stoddard is probably my favorite character so far because Bennett has presence and you want to watch her. Joe Haskell seems like a good egg, and creepy David is amusing.
I am invested now to find out Victoria's backstory (and obvious connection to Collinwood), as well as what happened to Elizabeth's first husband Paul and what lead to her 18 years of reclusion. These mysteries are very Dickensian.

Yes. Strong, tall and tough Mark Allen was a better Sam Evans to the comely Miss. Scott's Maggie than runty David Ford. But the latter was on so much longer as Sam that he is pretty much the whole character. See my postings on Scott!
