Discuss The Crystal Maze

I've made some fixes to the structure of the episodes in Series 01, and my intention is to continue this work through S2-S6:

  • Corrected the episode names to just use generic titles. These episodes did not use any official title, so "Episode XX" (where XX is the representative number) is better than a very long title containing the contestants' names and ages (the latter being inconsistently excluded from certain contestants' introductions).
  • Replaced all episode summaries with generic (and thus repeatable) descriptions. The previous ones often used rude or inappropriate language (which would be imported by external platforms like the Infuse mobile app), or were just bad copypastes from text that can be found on Wikipedia, which had nothing to do with the episode in question.
  • Added a generic series' summary to all of the series, to make things more thematic and also to create an easy entry point for users.
  • Added "Challenge" as a broadcaster (they're currently the only place where S1-S6 is repeated for viewers to watch these episodes again).

We currently have the "revived" series as a separate entry, but this may cause confusion with API usage with platforms such as Infuse, so it may be prudent that we merge the revived series into this version and count this as the "UK" edition, in case any other country decides to create their own localised version in the future.

I also intend to get better episode screenshots for the thumbnails (which will probably be a screen grab from the beginning of the episode when the contestants are about to enter the Maze), which will have a less intrusive icon and be more consistent across the board.

I'm not a Moderator so they may correct me, but as per TMDB rules, I believe:

1) Only the original broadcaster should be listed, therefore Challenge should not be added as a broadcaster here.

2) The revived series was titled Series/Season 1 by Channel 4, therefore a separate series entry is correct here.

I agree with the other changes though.

Thanks for your reply. Although Channel 4 were indeed the original broadcaster, its relatively established that a vast amount of the modern audience of the programme are watching it through the irregular repeats provided on Challenge. I think its important to give them credit for showing it, although I don't know the best way of doing that on the site. If you could link me to the specific rule regarding listing broadcasters, that would be appreciated, as I could not find anything [other than using original airing dates].

Also thanks for the information regarding the revival series: it should be titled in a way thats more clear about it being a revival though [personally], as it is a bit confusing currently.

Link as requested - specifically the "Simulcast and rebroadcast" section.

I agree regarding a clearer title. In the case of 2 series with the same title, TheTVDB add the release year to the later series in order to distinguish it from the original. I'm not sure why TMDB don't do this.

Thanks a ton for this link, I must have missed it due to the lack of an easy heading, so have removed the Challenge entry now.

It may be a case of submitting a report about the other series and asking that it be suffixed with (2016) to identify the revival. Same for the American version (though perhaps it should be "Crystal Maze (US)")......

We have the year in a separate field which is generally displayed next to the title.

No suffix are allowed here in the title field.

Thank you for the clarification on this. :)

Will close this thread as the other points are already resolved.
