I was a fan of the anime it's based on (Kakegurui), and I enjoyed the Japanese live-action series (both have been on Netflix for good while now). However, over the years many anime watchers I've talked to have told me they thought the Japanese live-action version was utter crap, which confused me as the anime and it was largely translated scene for scene.
Then came the trailer to Bet and they had a whole new thing to hate as it turned the over the top anime about addiction into Mean Girls. However, after the watching the series I have to say, I kind of like the new direction. So they changed Yumeko from a sweet but crazed gambling addict, to sweet but unapologetic murderous psycho bent on vengence...unmm sure...ok..I can dig it. Anyway I watched Bet with someone who doesn't watch anime, then showed that person the Japanese live-action for comparison, and he responded that he liked Bet more cause he felt the acting on the Japanese version was too over the top and very cartoony, to which I responded yeah well it is based on a cartoon, but I get it.
So, whatever you feel about this version, you can still rejoice even if you don't like it, that there are 2 other versions on Netflix that you can watch instead. It's really up to you how you want to experience this series.
