Based on the novel by Jirō Asada, the TV movie depicts the lives of the Shinsengumi warriors during the turmoil of the late Edo period.

幕末の盛岡南部藩。極貧の足軽・貫一郎は、妻・しづら一家を養うために脱藩。近藤勇率いる新選組に入隊し、次々と手柄を上げる。そして金のためと割り切り闘いへ出向く貫一郎を、人は「人斬り貫一」と呼んだ。だが、やがて坂本龍馬の力添えで薩長が同盟を宣言。世の中も新選組も大きな変化を迎える。その時、貫一郎は…。
