If they were on a collision course with Daran Five, and due to collide in just over a year, at sublight speed they couldn't have been headed towards any other star system to start with. Not if they were expected to "debark on their promised planet in approximately three hundred and ninety days." When they were that close, even a minor change in course would add years or decades to their journey.
So, had the Fabrini intended for them to go to Daran Five? Not knowing, at the time of launch, that it would be a heavily populated Federation world by the time they arrived?
Or maybe they were headed for Daran Four, or Daran Six?

According to the novel "Star Trek: Ex Machina (2004)" the Fabrini's ship Yonada was headed towards Daran IV.

In which case, what appeared to be a "collision course" was likely spurious, since the asteroid ship would have necessarily decelerated/changed course before then.
