I got to thinking again about the episode "The Savage Curtain," and how... something... the Surak character was about Spock displaying emotion. Like, "Well how could you not display emotion, when you thought you saw someone as great as ME?"
Always gives me a chuckle.

@wonder2wonder : Kirk and T'Pring together in ANY timeline? Please don't give the writers any ideas!

But the Vulcans had come to Earth using warp drive. In "Metamorphosis" it's clear that Cochrane discovered warp drive for EVERYONE, not just Earth. Because if Vulcan had it already, Spock would not have said what he said about Cochrane.

Early on, Kirk said that Vulcans used to kill for their mates. Maybe he should have remembered that when they beamed down, and T'Pring issued the challenge.

Well the keywords are used to kill. Kirk didn't forget. He just thought that, being so logical, Vulcans resolved problems, including those involving amorous relationships, with reason.
I wonder how Kirk would have decided had he known it was to the death?
We know Kirk did not believe in no-win scenarios
But at the same time, when Kirk accepted, he was not aware that Bones had that neuroparalyzer shot that ultimately saved the day.
