Discuss Star Trek

With a nod to rudely_murray over at the Kevin Bacon thread, let's play 6 degrees of TOS! The rules: You name an actor, and the next poster has to link that actor to one of the Big 3 (Shatner, Nimoy, or Kelley) in as few moves as possible. Ideally 6 or less, hence, 6 degrees.

Example:

Player 1 names Bruce Lee.

Player 2 responds:

  1. Bruce Lee starred in Enter the Dragon with John Saxon.
  2. John Saxon starred in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man with Lee Majors.
  3. Lee Majors starred with William Shatner when he guest starred in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man.

Player 2 then names another actor to link to one of the Big 3.

Feature films or TV shows only. Try not to select names which would be too easy, like linking Shatner to Patrick Stewart is no challenge!

Okay, here goes...

First try: Marlon Brando.

I was just making fun of the whole mess that the series is with the changes from the book.

Galadriel has been married to Celeborn since the beginning of the Second Age. Their daughter Celebrían was born around S.A. 300 and Galadriel stayed with her, while Celeborn went on in S.A. 1697 to join the War of Eregion - with Gil-galad, Elrond and the Dwarves - against Sauron for the Rings of Power, which were forged almost two centuries earlier, around S.A. 1500.

so you were pulling my leg ? As you know, I'm no expert in Tolkien lore so many inconsistent events will go undetected by me.

Despite the changes, I still enjoy watching Elrond and Durin's scenes and Ereinion's. I just finished reading a fan fic about Ereinion as a child (age 10) and he was sent to Cirdan. It was very well written.

I was just considering what more the writers would be changing from the books, and it is not too difficult, as many viewers like all that soap drama in subplots. Love, sexual tension, affairs, jealousy and betrayal, amidst a looming war, mingled with heroic adventures, friendship and loyalty, secrets and conspiracies, are the ingredients of successful entertainment. What else can you ask for? wink

Of course, which storylines, if any, will be chosen, is up to TPTB.

Of course there is romance - I mentioned one in my post here - and other drama in the books, but not in the way the series present them. It is like in Star Trek, where for example there is drama in the original series, but in NuTrek it is changed and emphasized in subplots to entertain the viewers, e.g. the affairs of Spock, Pike, Christine, Captain Kirk. The characters in Rings of Power are 'humanized' and 'diversified' to fit the contemporary times - including the introduction of new characters who are not in the books - and possible romances that did or didn't exist - e.g. Galadriel and Annatar never met in the published original Tolkien books - are reimagined.

I hope we get to see Cirdan and Glorfindel.

Cirdan is in season two. In the books he has always been there through the ages as the lieutenant of Gil-galad. Around S.A. 1590 he adviced against the forging of the three Elven Rings. In the series Elrond is given the role of lieutenant; Elrond was Gil-galad's herald in the books.

In the books Glorfindel returned to Middle-Earth in S.A. 1600 - when Sauron forged the One Ring - together with the two Blue Wizards.

Ciao wonder2wonder slight_smile

Glad to hear Cirdan will be part of the cast ... any news about Glorfindel? He too played a big role. Wasn't he returned so he could protect Elrond, who became the Lord of Imladris?

There is a lot of drama in Elrond's life. I read some great fan stories about his child and teen-hood but I'm unsure if it is all canon.

Malgor and Maedhros, searching for the Silmarils, cause the death of Elronds parents. The two kinslayers save the twins and in time they become close. When they are about 10 for their safety, Malgor sends the twins to live with Ereinion and Cirdan. His brother Elros, later decides to be human and goes to live on Numenor.

So he went through a lot of heartache. I love drama and sad endings
