I was recently convinced to watch the Stargate franchise in its totality, starting off with Origins, then the movie, straight into SG-1. Now we are up to season 8 of SG-1 and Atlantis has entered the mix. It was all so enjoyable until Atlantis.

This show is just bad!! It is poorly written, the acting is terrible and the cast do not gel at all.

We have Joe Flanigan trying to imitate Richard Dean Anderson, and it just does not work.

We have Rachel Luttrell who reminds me of a pre-school teacher speaking to 3 year olds.

David Hewlett, whose acting in this role seems to be based on the constant whiny tantrum of a spoilt 8 year old boy. (oh please just shut up and stop taking over the screen-time)

And Torri Higginson who I am still trying to figure out what her purpose is on the show. Her role has absolutely no bearing on the outcome of any event.

But the most off-putting aspect is that it is all so predictable. Everything works out. The team is always victorious. They always overcome the hurdles. They always solve the problem even if the technology is alien and is thousands of years in advance of their current understanding. All problems are solved no matter how ridiculous the science babble talk is. 10,000 year old alien ship? No problems, we'll be flying it within the hour! 5 Wraith ships? No problems we'll just beam on board and plant explosives! Oh, come on!!!

I am amazed at how this load of rubbish ever reached 5 seasons. We are into season 2 and already reached the point where we are skipping through the episodes. The stories are so shallow and predictable we are not missing out on anything of significance.
