讨论 阿诺·施瓦辛格:人生三部曲

Item: Arnold

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Design_issue

Extra Details: Someone added a handful of guest stars as regular cast members (Sly Stallone, Jim Cameron, Linda Hamilton, Jamie Lee Curtis)… and the cast list broke. These people are gone from the page.

When is this bug going to be fixed?

Hi! I fixed it!! When this happens, you have to go to all episodes, remove the guest stars, and add them back.

Thanks, David. But, and there's always a “but”, this gives the website coders an “out” from addressing the regular cast member/guest star issue. I'd rather see it resolved, instead of relying on this quite cumbersome workaround. I appreciate the reply and fix, but y'know what I mean. ;) Cheers!

Considering that this bug is well known for a long time, but doesn't listed on Trello, there's a fat chance that it will be fixed any time soon, if ever. Apparently, the stupid "delete all then re-add, repeat when needed" method is considered an acceptable solution to the problem.

They could've at least put a check in place, which prevents adding the actor/character pair to the season's regulars if they already guest-starring in one of the season's episodes. And vice versa. At least that will make manual fixes more foolproof.

It's really frustrating that there's zero reaction from staff on this obvious bug, which severely affects the functionality, and requires a shitton of time wasted to fix it every time it manifests (delete all occurrences just to add them again - a time well spent). Not to say that the fix will only work until the next idiot decides to add a guest star to regulars - and then it's all over again. So it's not even really a fix, just a temporary measure.

I wonder if there's a way to invite the staff to this discussion?

I mentioned it in our internal thread again just now. Hoping Travis sees it, because like you said, it's a ton of time wasted and imo pretty infuriating every time it happens.

@Sheigutn I'll log those cast bugs and try to get them prioritized in the backlog. We've already got the next 4-6 weeks planned out so it won't get looked at until later this summer.

That's the response I just got from Travis. smiley_cat I listed another bug that I knew of, that's why it says "bugs."

Well, at least now it's acknowledged and put in the queue. The best one could expect I guess. Thank you for communicating that to Travis :)

FYI, Travis sent us this message internally yesterday:

I have pushed some more fixes around TV cast & crew. There could still be edge cases I couldn't find, this part of TMDB is probably the single most complicated part of our code base (for real) and is really ugly to work on.

One thing I will say just to make sure we're all on the same page, any credits that were previously affected by the "added to both episodes and seasons" bug are still going to act funky. They will need to be removed and re-added. The fixes I've been working on have been to prevent them from being created in the first place as well as properly support the situation where a single credit belongs to an episode and a different season. This is what caused the original problem to begin with and should be working (hopefully) now.

If you find more bugs, just ping me in here and I'll let him know.

That's great news! Thank you for seeing this through, and kudos to Travis for the fix :)
