The Contribution Bible states regarding the tv show status "Returning Series":

"status we use from the premiere to the very last episode of a series.

It basically means that the series will return... tomorrow, next week, in two months, in a year. Every series is assumed to be returning until an official cancellation/end or after an abnormally long hiatus."

David Lynch and Mark Frost said they are open for another season of the show. Not immediately, but there is still a possibility that the show might return:

That's why I think we shouldn't change the status to "Ended", yet.
