Item: The Return

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Twin Peaks: The Return should not be listed as a third season of Twin Peaks. According to co-writer and director David Lynch in an interview with Deadline, "It’s a film. It’s broken into parts." Essentially, he is describing a miniseries, separate from the original series which was an episodic, multi-seasoned piece (constituting it being called a TV series). If TMDb would like to be accurate to the artist's intents and the functionality of the work, The Return should be listed seperately as a miniseries.

Since it is a continuation of the first two seasons, we have decided to keep it as season three. Also, please be careful to not submit more than one report for the same issue, I believe if you click more than once on the submit button it'll post twice. I've closed your other report, thank you.

And, honestly, it doesn't really matter what the artist's intents was. The network is king.

"The network is king" - well, in that case the network "Paramount" is treating these as two separate entities.

  1. Twin Peaks (2 seasons) - https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/twin_peaks/
  2. Twin Peaks - The Return (1 season) - https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/twin-peaks-the-return/

Not the original page nor network. The series was released long before Paramount+ was launched.

Original Twin Peaks (2 seasons) belonged to ABC.

Twin Peaks - The Return (or 3rd season, as it's called here) premiered on Showtime.

Showtime is owned by Paramount. If you go to the website (https://www.paramountpluswithshowtime.com/series/series-a-z) and look for Twin Peaks it will lead you to the link I shared in my previous post which shows "The Return" as a stand alone series.

Can you provide an official "Showtime" datapoint or source which shows Twin Peaks - The Return is the third season of the 1990's show Twin Peaks?

As visible on the 2017 archived page of Showtime, at the time of the original broadcast, "The Return" was listed on the same page as the main Twin Peaks show. Consequently, it is part of the main show.

How Paramount display it now in 2025 is irrelevant for our listing.
