That whole set is weird. Some have even suggested that it is a nod to the Degas painting Ballerinas in Pink but I think that's a stretch. I think the chicks have witnessed people getting pummeled (probably to death) so much for doing much less than wacking the guy on the face hard enough to make him bleed that she is terrified for her life.

I think she's probably just drugged up most of the time, which probably helps to explain her hysterical reaction to accidentally hitting that guy. I'm assuming she's also been abused physically and emotionally and the drugs help her to keep somewhat numb.
