Discuss Twin Peaks

I never got the chance of watching the entire show (for several different reasons), and finally this week I started. I'm trying to re-create the experience of originally watching on TV, so I'm going to watch one chapter per week. I have to say this show has endured the test of time and remains what I would call good television. A bit too much drama in the pilot, but then it seems the show is a little inspired in the soap opera format, among other influences. Anyway, I feel now I'm much more capable of catching most of the nuances in direction, photography and character building that escaped me when I first saw it in 1990. How was your viewing experience, by the way? (Just don't tell me who killed Laura Palmer, please...)

One more thing. In the beginning of the month I posted a message introducing my friends and I and inviting anybody interested in watching and commenting on the show on a weekly basis as it developed. However, due to extraordinary circumstances, we were not able to continue here. But we still thought the show deserved detailed chapter-by-chapter reviewing and commenting. Anyway, if anybody is remotely interested in the process or even would like to throw their two cents, all I can say is that you can find us at imdforums.

Happy watching for everybody!

Welcome to Twin Peaks! I am sure you will enjoy it. Twin Peaks draws inspiration from the old school day time soaps and pokes fun at them so you will see a lot of what goes on in the show way mirror what is happening in the soap you frequently see one of the characters watching in the show. But the real fun of Twin Peaks is Lynch's way of presenting to you the story with drips and drabs of important plot elements that keeps the audience guessing and coming up with theories. Sometimes the theories are dead ends while other times they turn out to be true. I'm sure you will enjoy it and make sure you watch the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me afterwards if you plan on watching the The Return as it has lots of very important clues. If you are really hard core into it, then watch The Missing Pieces which is basically and hour and a half of cut scenes from the film but also gives important clues to what you see in The Return.

Enjoy! grinning

Well, thank you for the nice welcome, movie_nazi. Yes, the information that TP draws inspiration from old soap operas puts things in a much clearer context now. And I'll sure check the complementary movies you mentioned. I'll tell that to the rest of the gang at IMDF.
