Colin is feeling low due to Barry moving out of the flat. Pauline is considering taking on a cleaning job at The Dagmar now Angie's not working there. Lofty is over the moon about Michelle's pregnancy, but she is not happy about it or ready to move back in with him, and asks him not to tell anyone just yet.

Sharon and Duncan talk about Angie. He reassures her, and tells her, that her mother's drinking is not her fault or responsibility. Arthur finds out from Darren that Michelle is pregnant, and although cross at hearing it from a stranger, he's over the moon. Michelle meets with Den in the Square to discuss her plans for an abortion. He tells her its her body and her decision. She then asks Lofty to look after Vicki while she pops out, where she then goes to the private clinic to set a date for her abortion.

Pete is being hounded by an unsatisfied customer, and he tells him to get lost. Rod is stitched up by Darren regarding a job he wants him to do. Dot seems to be being watched by a man in the café. Rod vows revenge on Darren, saying he can run but he cannot hide.

Pete is nervous about his brother Kenny turning up after 23 years away. Dot gets worried when a man with a beard keeps hanging around Bridge Street Café. Rod tells him not to step out of line. The man leaves, but comes back later. Dot says if he robs her, all she has to do is scream and everyone in the market will come in and stop him, but the man says if he was going to rob her, he would not hang around where everyone saw his face. He says he has got a new job and Dot soon realises he is harmless and they go for a drink in the Vic later on. Lofty is still angry at Michelle for aborting their baby and he wants to leave Walford.

Kenny and Pete want answers from Pat as to who the father of Simon is. Sue is worried that her second baby may die another cot death. Carmel says that someone to have a second baby to die of cot death is unheard of. Tom is reluctant to let the disco go ahead at the community centre but agrees to it as long as he can see everyone who enters and no one carries any alcohol in.

Wicksy arrives home from holiday and spends the day playing Magda and Donna off against each other. Elizabeth gives Ian the run-around. Darren's 'African Culture' evening is not all it seems, as it has an exclusively male audience and Dot gets the shock of her life when she walks in on it and faints!

Dot saves the day at the laundrette, and Den warns Pat that he's selling up. Sue busily cleans the flat, convinced the baby won't arrive until Saturday. She then goes into labour, whilst Ali is caught in a traffic jam. Frank meets up with Pat, suggesting he sells his business to buy into a business with Pat. Kathy tells Pete that she is going to accept the job offer at the Dagmar.

Ian bails Arthur out of a tight spot, whilst Frank discusses the tenancy of the Queen Vic with Mr Sparrow. It is the first day at the Dagmar for Kathy and Willmott-Brown celebrates with a bottle of champagne. Pete disapproves of her working there. Guizin arrives at the café to help out. Sue comes home with baby Ali and the residents hold a party for them where both Lofty and Michelle try to make amends. Magda breaks off her relationship with Wicksy and tells him to move out of the flat. She's hoping to exchange contracts with Willmott-Brown that day on 43 Albert Square, and tells Wicksy she'll now live there alone, but Willmott-Brown keeps avoiding her.

Den continues to get information on pubs to look at, and goes with Angie to see two in Epping Forest, but she seems less interested now. Angie tells Kathy how good her holiday in Spain was with Sonny and Ree. Magda finally manages to catch up with Wilmott-Brown to find out why his solicitors are ignoring her request to exchange contracts on Number 43, only to find out he's accepted a higher offer on the house, leaving her gazumped for a third time. Upset about both losing yet more money in trying to buy a house and her recent break-up with Wicksy, she decides to leave Walford that day to go and live with a friend who has a spare room in Fulham.

Ali and Sue learn that Alan has bought Number 43 off Willmott-Brown and is converting it into luxury flats. Sharon invites Duncan round for afternoon tea. Angie sees how Kathy is getting on working at The Dagmar. She tries to talk to Kathy about something but cannot bring herself to do so.

Carmel is at her wits end with Barry and his late-night record playing. Pat is quickly settling into the idea of her being a landlady. Carmel's mother turns up in the Square wanting answers about Darren. Kathy tries to reason with Ian about why she got involved with the bombshell of Donna's paternity in tow.

With Doctor Legg on his case, Ian has to decide where he is going to live. Colin asks for Richard's opinion on his latest work project. Wicksy's girlfriends Donna and Cindy meet head on. Brad tricks Darren into "doing business" with him, but instead has him beaten up by the Firm and returning to the Square injured in a taxi, much to the delight of Den, who tells him that will teach him to mind his own business, while Darren vows revenge.

Frank and Pat return from their management course in Brighton and prepare for their imminent takeover at the Vic. In an argument Pauline lets Michelle know that she knows that Den is Vicki's father.

Pauline kicks Ian out from the house when his disco set makes too much noise. Brad brings Joanne Francis, the wine bar's new manager, to the Vic to meet Den. He also gives Den more money to launder. Carmel and Colin get into a political row over the community centre.

Barry tells Colin he's got a new job on a cruise ship via his new friend Trevor, who's swung it so Barry can run the disco. He's just sold his record stall to Rod and is leaving Walford tomorrow. Lou returns from Leigh-on-Sea in a black cab, via her husband Albert's grave. She gives Ian a list of people and times that she wants to see them, and makes him run round Albert Square sending each person over to her at Number 45 in turn. Arthur loses his job at the shop after the Karims become unsettled by the frequent police visits to see Arthur about the fire at The Dagmar. He tells Pauline and they vow not to tell Lou about it.

Lou continues doing her rounds around the Square, telling certain people a few home truths. Pat confides in Donna about maternity and parenting issues. Colin and Barry enjoy themselves by getting drunk on cider. After much thinking and probably the guilt lingering over her after Lou gave her a piece of her own medicine, Pat finally tells Wicksy that Brian Wicks is in fact his biological father. Lou gathers her family together at Number 45 and goes around them one by one, giving each a lecture but also words of encouragement and a gift. Satisfied that she's given her family one final sorting out, and feeling she hasn't got long left to live, she heads to bed saying "I can go now".

The Beales and Fowlers are in for a day of shocks and surprises, but Pauline once again pulls the family together. Doctor Legg and Ethel welcome an old friend. Dot is devastated to hear from Colin that Charlie has left her and gone to Liverpool to be with his other wife and her half-sister Rose and has stolen her holiday money and other possessions as well.
