As indicated in this previous content report, it was originally broadcasted as one single double length episode.

Wikipedia references it as two episodes, citing a Wayback Archive of startrek.com which also lists Dark Frontier Part I and Part II as separate. They may have aired together but they have separate production numbers.

The fact that they have 2 separate production numbers doesn't change the fact that they were originally broadcasted as one single episode.
Here, we follow the original broadcast, not the production.
