Project Runway bediscussiëren

Not a good start.

What I liked: The new workroom. The diversity of the contestants. The new female judge.

What is I didn't like:

Bland host. Bland mentor. The male judge, trying way too hard to be funny.

The fashion: A good, not great runway. I think I'd have gone with the other top look for the win.

Now to the worst of the worst: O M G they didn't send that blue bodysuit home. I get the feeling that it was because she is nice and nobody likes the WASP princess. Another decision like that and I may not continue.

Hmmm... I just realized that Christian picked out Sebastian's fabric, a bit too much steering the designers, imo, but I guess he didn't want to see a trainwreck on his watch.

He tried to do it with Bishme with questioning the color of blue, but Bishme shooed him away.

I guess I'm so used to Christian's interference that I don't even react to it anymore.

Truth is the top three were all bad. Sebastian's was very well made. But a putrid color and a very silly design. Worked for his pageant girl disney princess teamster, but no one else. That was the challenge but the dress was ugly. Both Garo and Bishme's dresses looked bridal boutique. Not good. NONE of the top three garments would win a challenge on any other season of PR.

Well, don't hold back on my account 💣😁

LOL.

I try to think will I dream of these dresses long after the season is over or even after the episode? Can I see other women drooling over these dresses? The answer is no.

I enjoyed this week's challenge but imo, most did better designing their room than their looks. I don't think anyone rose to the challenge of doing bigger and bolder than anything previously made, except possibly Sebastian. His room design was a total fail so I agreed that he didn't deserve the win.

I didn't like any of the other looks. Garo's was the one I disliked the least and his room was pretty cool so I'm OK with his win.

Tessa's look was fine with the jacket on but once they took it off, wtf? Why does she like random colored hanging strips of fabric so much? Japanese inspiration behind her work? I haven't seen that at all and neither have the judges apparently.

Bishme had a great idea with the beautiful rose growing out of concrete but the look was a disaster. Why oh why with lame? We've seen that design many times. Construction was a mess.

I loved Hester's room but that look was far from her best work. I think Christian steered her in the wrong direction with her bodice.

What a shame. This challenge really could have brought out the best. Instead we mostly got undercooked versions of previous, better designs.

To me, Sebastian's dress was hideous. Technically well crafted but hideous. No way.

I couldn't see the construction errors. Thought the dress was middle of the road, but it did meet the challenge of being big and bold.

I loved Hester's room but that look was far from her best work. I think Christian steered her in the wrong direction with her bodice.

He told her to stop copying the same bodice she did in the past. Last count, she did that bodice two or three times, and it's not flattering. She didn't make that bodice shape -- she did something equally hideous.

I quite like Garo's Judy Jetson dress.

We're behind on comments. Had the computer in for maintenance and then had a very busy week, so this is for Episode 11.

We thought the top designs were quite good for the challenge. Since the clients were fairly everyday women, really high fashion wasn't what was needed.

Garo's was lovely. The color was perfect and you could tell she was so excited about it. It had innovative features that would not be found on anything ready-to-wear.

We liked Sebastien's. We weren't fond of the color, but we wouldn't call it putrid. Bishme's was also nice. We very much liked the color and thought the pleating around the waist fit her figure nicely.

Hester's was just okay, barely. She definitely has a problem normalizing her work. For her own client base, her esthetic is fine. But for a more "normal" client, she needs to learn how to express herself while still pleasing the client.

So we get to Tessa and Jamal. Both were not good.

Tessa seems to be functional incapable of using color. How she thought this dress featured pink we don't know. We don't work in pink if we can help it, but we are far more "literate" in most colors. Those hanging sheers were weird to start with and none of them were what we would call pink. Then she cuts them off. Again, she failed to finish them.

Bishme's was a disaster. His client was the most difficult body to flatter, but he shouldn't have gone the long sheath dress look.

These comments are for episode 12, the experiential room. This was a very ambitious challenge. We can see lots of problems. The rooms are very important to the final look, but the designers have very little control of them. They give a quick, stream-of-conscience, description to another artist who is actually going to do the work. They get to see it in progress just once. We could work like this if we had more input and presence, but this would drop us crazy.

We think the designers went avant-garde for this, which we approve of. A one-look piece to show who they are in a room designed to compliment? Yeah, avant-garde works for us.

We agree that Tessa has not shown us any Japanese esthetic throughout the season. This one was definitely Japanese, but it didn't display any of the grace and simplicity that is fairly typical of Japanese fashion. Having the model work on the pottery wheel was interesting.

Hester's look had an interesting theme. Aggressive Rococo Bondage Picnic fits her well. She did struggle. We liked the bottom. The bodice had issues.

Garo's was very nice. It was simple, but innovative and gave us an unusual transformation.

We very much like Sebastien's look. It was completely inappropriate for the street, but for an avant-garde piece, it doesn't have to. The main issue was did it go to costume. That could be a reasonable complaint. We can tell you that it would likely do well on a masquerade/cosplay stage.

Overall, we thought the right designers where chosen for the finale.

My initial reaction to the collections (the home visits):

Bishme is in trouble. He doesn't seem to have a concept or enough ideas for a collection. What is with all those ugly, shiny, cheap looking fabrics?

Hester could be on to something really fabulous. She needs to do some editing, but that is not the worst problem to have. Wasn't her house just so her?

Garo's looks very Garo. A little dark for my taste, but that's him.

Sebastian's looks very Sebastian, pretty cloths, well executed.

The runway:

I wonder what happened to Garo. I thought his collection looked pretty good in the home visit, but something just didn't translate to the runway. I have to agree with him, he was given the most difficult extra look to complete. A tailored suit in two days? I thought the beaded dress looked pretty dated. I didn't get the reveal look at all. It looked basic and cheap without the overdress.

Once again, too much interference from Christian (with Hester). He was right about that awful white dress she was doing, and the red one she ended up with was great. Still, you have to wonder what would have happened if he had told her how he felt about the white dress but let her go ahead with it if that's what she wanted to do. That said, I think she is going to win.

I like Sebastian's collection but to me, it has second place written all over it. Pretty cloths, good construction, but nothing very innovative. That type of collection doesn't usually get the win.

Bishme, poor guy just didn't seem to have his head in the game. Maybe all the family stuff got to him, maybe he just isn't ready. I do think he has talent and hope he stays with it. I'd like to see him again in a couple of seasons.

Ouch! I felt Hester's pain. I really did.

Christian saves Hester's ass by literally telling her to make a red dress. In the end, she didn't give him credit. She tossed that out to Nina, who merely told her to make a solid piece.

Hester's clothes are very much in trend with younger women, and she has a strong chance at winning. Sebastian's clothes are nice as well, but I don't think he'll show anything new. So, he won't win, imo.

Garo is clearly the odd man out, because there is no way as -- a woman -- I will wear those sad looking clothes.

Winner: Hester as we can see she is heavily influenced by Niki Minaj.

We cannot argue with the judge's decisions.WeI did feel sorry for Bishme. His personal issues really affected him. We can't criticize him for that. His pain was evident and its sad the events that caused it happened in the finals timeframe.

We do think Christian was overly involved with Hester's solid color look; but he's been doing it all season. The white dress would probably have been terrible and I'm glad she went with the red/pink one. We were amused that she didn't know how to get blood out of her fabric. With it fresh like that its not that hard to do.

Final runway:

I'd have to agree with the judge who said they did not have a favorite collection, but had favorites from each collection. I think there were some questionable decisions made by the designers about what to include and not include in the show. Starting with Garo - why would you not include the beaded dress that the judges loved? Sebastian's orange jacket with the long braided skirt - my favorite thing he made, but also out. That was much better than the very similar look that opened his show. He almost didn't include the Nina look that judges loved. I was scratching my head along with Christian on that one.

Garo's was so boring I can hardly remember any of the looks. Lots of dark colors and corsets.

Sebastian made a nice collection. I'm not really an earth tone person and I don't love the light gauzy fabrics that he used a lot. Several of his pieces had too much fussiness around the waist area, imo. His cloths were the best constructed, and I think a lot of women would wear them.

Hester was hit and miss. I am obsessed with her final look. The redesign of her solid red look worked well. I didn't like the diamond print, the one the judges called out in her second look.

Overall, kind of a so so season as far as the fashion. Most memorable look for me is Garo's Rocketman. Hester is the designer I will remember, not for a single look but her overall feeling.

That was Marnie, the stylist, who said that.

I agree.

Too much orange and too casual. I did like more pieces in Seb's collection than the others, so I was okay w/him winning. A lot more pieces meaning, I liked about three pieces.

Hester was killing me with those triangular shaped tops and pieces. Plus, those circle clips she often uses bugged the mess out of me. I was rooting for her to win, but after seeing her collection, I was glad she didn't.

I did like Hester's picnic dress. It was her first win and very cute. I liked Garo's Rocketman costume, but this season was so boring. They need to dig deep and find more talented designers, even if they have to use designers from the past.
