Finally, about this stylist, Marni...I don't get her personal aesthetic at all, and find her taste suspect. What bugs me is that she seems too hands on. In contrast, Tim Gunn never actually touched the design or gave advice on specifically what to do. This week, that Marni was totally hands on. Go ahead and make a mask. Tess, you make earrings.

Yes, Christian, who sounds like one of my supervisors (yuk!), is totally hands-on. Plus, he's not warm and encouraging. He's more on the annoying side.

Notice, too, that this is the second designer that goes home because they had a “plus” sized model. The rest need to get a clue that these models are here to stay and that, yes, indeed, you need to work with all types of bodies, like it or not.

Still, it is suspect how a designer gets a plus-size model. Is it totally random? Is it a particular order? Enquiring minds want to know.

Oh my God, how could I have forgotten to comment on the way she treated her model. What did she say again anout her walk? That model was beautiful and could definitely have rocked a flashy print. The problem was the designer's limited imagination.

Finallly saw all three of the episodes. My thoughts;

Episode 1: This was a pretty typical first episode. Essentially, make what you want. The workroom is great: bright and airy. Christian as the mentor has a long way to go. The judges I'm not sure about. I'm not familiar with any of them. We'll see.

Episode 2: This was a brilliant challenge. While such extreme body modifications are probably a couple of decades away from being common or easily available, they really gave the designers something to stretch their skills around. I thought it was disappointing that the two modifications I thought would be the easiest and most exciting to highlight (shoulder horns and chest feathers) produced the weakest looks. Overall, I can't complain about the results.

Episode 3: I love pattered fabrics, though my wife and I don't use them often in our costume work. They can be a challenge and requiring a head to two use of the prints was a real challenge. Unfortunately, too many of the designers displayed that they don't like prints. Many seemed to be trying to either minimize the print (Raccar [sp?]) or tried to hide it in their designs. I'm not sure I would lump stripes and plaids with patterns, but since none of the judges brought that up I'm okay with it.

I loved the top designs. Even though Sabastien's print was pretty restrained he tailored it beautifully. Kovik and Hester really embraced the patterns and I agreed with them at the top. Either of them winning (or even Sebastien) was good with me.

The bottom looks belonged their. Raccar's was messy and unattractive and, again, his print was barely a print. Nadine's was just unattractive from the start. And her whole attitude disturbed me. Blaming her model for not being able to do what she envisioned was a cop out. She was just defeatist from the get go.

I could not agree more about Christian. He hasn't improved. I had doubts about him in this role and boy was was I right. He comes across as a cold fish, so different than Tim.

I like the new female judge but I have not heard of either of the new judges before.
