Because he had never thought about drinking alcohol before. He thought it was naughty. It was a new set of thoughts for him.
Naw, I don't believe that Raj never had any alcohol before leaving India, or in the US before that time in the show.
Raj was a good boy who listened to his mommy and daddy.
A grasshopper walks into the bar at the Cheesecake Factory.
Grasshopper: "I’ll have a beer, please."
Penny: "“Sure. Hey, did you know we have a drink named after you?”
Grasshopper: "Really? You have a drink named Raj?!"
