...National Wine Day!

National Wine Day is an annual feast celebrated on May 25th of every year.

I think it's so great that Penny has her on wine_glass holiday! The best part is (and I quote): "you need not excuse yourself to have a glass of wine or perhaps some glasses of wine."

Enjoy!

Heck, here in Washington State it's been in the mid to high 50s for a couple of weeks (it even got into the 60s a couple of times).

Weather seems to have a mind of its on all over.

Couple of weeks back...after one of those warm-ups-cool-down spurts...looked out the window and a rosebush had fully-formed flowers on one branch, AND icicle on another!

End Times!? fearful

The day to see inside Johnny Galecki's 'Whimsically Gothic' Nashville mansion.

Today is...

...the second day of Lent.

I always wrestle with what to: “give up for Lent”. I’m not even a religious person; but for me it’s like Spock and “Pon Farr” (only annually). Observing Lent is one of only two (brained-washed) habits left over from my religious upbringing…the other being opening my wallet on demand.

Anyway…

…A list of some popular stuff folks often give up for Lent:

  • Alcohol
  • Binge-Watching (How many episodes in one sitting does it take to put one over-the-line?)
  • Chocolate
  • Coffee
  • Criticizing
  • Gossiping
  • Meat
  • Procrastination
  • Sarcasm
  • Smoking
  • Social Media
  • Soda
  • Sugar
  • Swearing
  • Sweets
  • Television

It didn’t make any list that I ran across, but here is my guilty pleasure that I WILL NOT be indulging in (or any of its "relatives") for the next 38 1/2 days.

Potato chips or tuna? Are the bolded ones some of your 'guilty pleasures'? And shouldn't sex be on the list above? 😉

Potato Chips (in all its guises), along with its many, many, many relatives residing in the “salty snacks” aisle.

---But, did forget to include ‘Meat’ (which was a big one); so added it in).

As for sex, didn’t see it on ANY list…guess no survey taker plans to abstain for 40-days-and-39 nights.

I always give up my New Years resolutions.

I buy one bag of Wavy Lays once a year. I eat a little less than half the bag, not in one sitting, by dipping them in a combo of bleu cheese, french onion, & garlic dip. I then crush the rest of the bag & dump the crumbs in the garbage. I also buy a snack-size bag of crunchy Cheetos once a year but I do eat the whole bag over a couple of days.

Caught part of a documentary about why folks are less like you when it comes to "snack foods" and more like this.

Botttomline science is working against us...and those companies own the scientists. It's no accident that folks "can't eat just one"; or at which point something "melts in your mouth". Why else would we be paying $5 for what is essentially a half-bag-of-air! slight_smile

I've never been much of a snacker (price is also a consideration) so I have that in my favor but another reason is, that I read years ago that potato chips stick to the lining of your intestines for years, it was proven not to be entirely true but it stuck in my brain all these years.

Today is...

Presidents' Day, officially Washington's Birthday.

(Yeah, I know it doesn’t fall on his birthday…but this IS the government, so it can name-as-it-sees-fit.)

There are a lot of great Washington quotes out there to choose. But, I like this one because it 'speaks-to-the-man'…not the warrior…not the hero…not the legend.

"Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company."

It was moved to the third Monday of February so the feds could get a three-day weekend!
