Just Re-Watched the Entire Show...Thoughts
During the pandemic most of us binged or even Re-binged everything right? I was wanting to Re-Binge TBBT but for whatever reason its only on HBO Max pretty much. So finally got HBO Max about 4 months back and started Re-Binging TBBT and was impressed how great the show was and how it still holds up yes it only ended like 3 years ago but the world has completely changed since then with the pandemic being the most obvious change, but everything is pretty much streaming now.
It seems gone are the huge popular hit shows like TBBT that only shows on network tv and you pretty much have to watch it in real time as it airs or you miss it or hear spoilers. It seems all the networks just gave up on this tradition and are now focusing on streaming shows instead. Most are dropping entire seasons on one day too!
Has anyone else Re-Binged TBBT and gained even more of an appreciation for it? Especially now that these big huge network shows pretty much no longer exist? I think this show did a great job in character development and having all of the characters evolve and overcome their own individual issues(all the guys meeting girls and pretty much getting married minus Raj of course). But Raj has come a long way in having girlfriends and overcoming his weird can't talk around girls condition, etc. Howard doing the RomCom ending stopping Raj at the airport to propose to Anu in London was so epic though!
I know some fans complain that the quality went down towards the end, but given that most shows do that after about 3 seasons, over all this show was pretty damn good going for 12 long seasons!
The finale was probably one of the most complete and satisfying finales of all tv history. With the elevator finally working, Sheldon getting his Nobel Prize and realizing his friends are as important to his life than anything else. A funny almost surreal or coincidental thing, there was a thread on TBBT on the old now defunct IMDB forums and the topic was how should they end the TBBT? I literally said they should surprise everyone and have the elevator work on the very last episode and they did! I also said Sheldon should win the Nobel Prize and instead of being his weird, rude condescending self he dedicated his Nobel Peace Prize to his friends and realizes how great his friends were this entire time. So almost verbatim they ended the show how I said/predicted it to end and this was during season 9 or 10 I wrote this. So I'm wondering if the writers came across our IMDB forums back then and just STOLE MY IDEA?????
I actually after Re-Binging it feel it may be the best, and most satisfying ending of a show ever? Not because they totally stole my idea, but it seems like they really did try to complete the show and didn't feel rushed or pressured by the network to end it a certain way or often times shows just do a half ass ending just to finish a show because they got the axe prematurely.
What do you guys think? Any thoughts after re-watching it or finishing it recently? Also could a show like this work again? You have to remember most shows would never star a bunch of geeky dorky guys who are super intelligent and who are scientists without them being super heroes and fighting crime. Still to this day the only time you see any scientists or a stereotypical nerd its always in a super hero/crime show or the butt of all jokes never the true lead stars of the shows. It's crazy how wealthy the whole cast became from the show making so much money that they all can just retire comfortably.
I heard Kaley(Penny) on Conan's podcast say she can't even watch the most recent seasons because it hurts her so much since the show was such a big part of her life, but she can only watch the first few seasons since she feels that was so long ago.
Jim Parsons(Sheldon) also on Conan's podcast said he felt the show was so successful and went on for so long since the entire cast was so professional and got along and there was never any drama on the sets. This is pretty much unheard in Hollywood as pretty much most shows and sets have a ton of drama on them!

Yeah; I miss the old, “headier” days of episode-by-episode viewing. Then, between episodes, you got a chance to digest, speculate, predict. Even better, you got a chance to engage your co-enthusiasts in
discussions about what it all meant…a character’s motivations for their action (or inaction)…what was going to happen next, etc.
Now, that everything-is-all-out-there-all-at-once, if you are trying to avoid spoilers, all that exhilarating interactivity with your fellows is not to be had.

Great predictions; but, probably not stolen from you. Probably more likely the writers deliberately put these thoughts in your head in the first place. Commercials are not the only things hitching a ride on the “Subliminal Bus”. They count on some people being more astute than others when it comes to subconsciously picking up on these sorts of things. They bombard you so often--over such a long period--that YOU start thinking of it as YOUR idea.

Yeah I totally agree with you! Something about the traditional week to week anticipation added something special to it thats for sure. What I liked about TBBT was it was unique in that the stars of he show were all "dorks" "nerds" but they were interesting, compelling enough for us the audience to want to keep coming back for more. Also I had 2 big comic book nerd friends of mine who were basically like Raj in that they never had girlfriends and had zero game with the ladies, so I liked how this show was relatable to them and it showed realistically how one can over come those challenges. Unfortunately my two friends are still pretty much like the former Raj, can't talk or meet chicks, and still never had a girlfriend even after all these years. I wish they watched TBBT more religiously from start to finish to motivate and inspire themselves. For if I was in their shoes I know this show would definitely inspire me.
But again to your point with the characters, even though they tease, prank, and screw each other over time to time, in the end they are a group of true friends and thats remarkable for in real life we tend to lose most of our friends as we get older and graduate and move away for jobs, families, etc.

With most of them working for the same university etc, they had more consistent lives than most people seem to these days.

Yeah but the difference being Penny was "Anti-Kids" she did not want kids and Leonard did. So thats pretty original, since most women in sitcoms all have the stereotypical biological clock ticking drama.

Thats true, although going back to my college it seemed all my professors hated each other or viewed each other as fierce competitors all gunning for the tenure spot? But then again these guys were't really professors but more so scientists /researchers right? Perhaps that would be even more competitive and tension between them?
The show did a good job giving off the Pasadena vibe though. If you see the apartment buildings in Pasadena they really do look like that and have that vibe to them. Theres actually a lot of good places to eat in Pasadena too, and theres a famous Cheesecake Factory there as well lol.
