In yet another rewatch, I still think that when Kurt repays the money Penny "loaned" him to pay his bail etc, Leonard should have taken off his hat so that Penny could see the IOU that Kurt wrote on his head. For sure it would have stopped Penny seeing Kurt again, and she and Leonard might have gotten married a good deal sooner.
