Sheldon had certain drinks for certain emotions.
I think most people associate certain foods and drinks with certain seasons. Name your favorite summertime drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and what you think Sheldon would have deemed appropriate for summer.
Non-alcoholic: Lemonade.
Alcoholic: Any concoction including pineapple and rum, also Peach Bellini.
Sheldon-approved summertime drink: Rum and Coke without the rum

I'm trying to spare him the exposure to aspartame.

Sheldon must believe it's less of a problem than sugar.

Non-alcoholic: Green Tea
Alcoholic: ( A Teetotaler)
Sheldon-approved summertime drink: Dr Pepper...
(1) Because of the “doctor” part.
(2) Because it is the (self-proclaimed) "National State Drink of Texas”; and we all know that Sheldon is a big fan of “self-proclaiming”.

And because his mother has "a mild Dr Pepper addiction." So it's in her honor.

Teetotaler: one who abstains from alcohol
Teetotaler: one who counts the number of little stands that hold up golf balls
Also I think Dr. Pepper has prunes in it. It's a good thing Sheldon's bowels run like a German train station.

The first “Teetotaler” in your list applies; had never heard of the second.
Speaking of never heard, the same goes for the “prune juice” rumor; but, found this on the “Melmagazine.com” site, under “Food” (2021):
“...Dr. Pepper prides itself on its “authentic blend of 23 flavors,” and legend holds that the recipe is kept as two halves in safe deposit boxes in two separate Dallas banks. While there are all sorts of guesses — cola, cherry, licorice, amaretto, almond, vanilla, caramel, the list goes on — the only thing we know for sure is that Dr. Pepper does not contain prune juice, a long-standing rumor that the company itself put to rest.”
Maybe that rumor got started because of its “medicinal-like” taste. I could never drink it as a kid; but now that I’m older and my taste buds have 'worn down', I’m good to go. In fact, I’ll take it over “Pepsi” any day.
(Think that whole “covertly securing-the-recipe" is just more hype...in the same vain as their self-proclamation. Guess the PR people have to earn their keep.)

That is interesting! I learned something today. I'm just the opposite. I loved Dr. Pepper as a child and now it's way too sweet for me. I remember getting to go into the teacher's lounge with my dad after school where he taught and being allowed to pick a soda in a glass bottle out of the drink machine. I would always pick Dr Pepper.
And I was just being silly with that second definition.

Dr. Pepper or Dr. Peeper?
