OT: RIP Alex Trebek (July 22, 1940 - November 8, 2020)

(Made it an "OT" because as far as I remember there was no mention of "Jeopardy" or Trebek on the show.)

However, I do remember quite a few discussions on the Old Board, after the episode featuring the Physics Bowl, that compared the set-up and the level of difficulty of the questions to Jeopardy.

While I don’t remember the context of all the discussions regarding the Physics Bowl, I do remember a hardy debate between "Team Alex" and "Team Sheldon" regarding IQs and who would best whom in a head-to-head.

I was Team Alex.

Trebek joked that he wanted Betty White to replace him as host…because the show should have someone who is younger and funnier.

Always been a great fan.

R.I.P.

I have the feeling that Sheldon would freeze up if he was on Jeopardy, or in a head-to-head with Alex Trebek. Sheldon's IQ was probably higher, but he didn't have the ability to be cool under pressure like Alex, and therefore I don't think it would matter that he was smarter. He'd freeze up, lose the game, and then call everyone a poopyhead. Or claim fraud and ask for a point recount. sunglasses

I did just read that there is a petition to make Levar Burton the next Jeopardy host. I would be good with that.

But maybe it will end up going to WHEATOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Names being bandied about to fill Trebek's "large shoes" (no doubt there will be others):

Ken Jennings (46): The highest-earning American game show contestant ever, and holds the longest winning streak on "Jeopardy!" Jennings has parlayed his celebrity status into books, a vibrant social media presence and a regular on Game Show Network's "Best Ever Trivia Show," among other achievements.

Tom Bergeron (65): Has the most TV hosting experience of anyone who has been mentioned as a possible Trebek successor. He hosted "America's Funniest Home Videos" from 2001-15, "Dancing With the Stars" from 2005-2020, and "Hollywood Squares". He has one Emmy for hosting "DWTS"

Alex Faust (31): Does play-by-play for the Los Angeles Kings during NHL games. He's also called games for NBC Sports and the Boston Red Sox on NESN. He stepped in for Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Miller, who left calling games for the Kings after 44 seasons.

LeVar Burton (63): Longtime host of "Reading Rainbow"; known for his acting turns in "Roots" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation," longtime presence on the big and small screen alike, and has a solid brand when it comes to just plain being smart.

Laura Coates (40): CNN legal analyst Coates, 40, also has a talk radio show on SiriusXM, and an adjunct law professor position at George Washington University School of Law.

Anderson Cooper (53): The two-time Emmy-winning journalist and host of "Anderson Cooper 360". He has hosted CNN's New Year's Eve special since 2002. He's also appeared on "Jeopardy!" as a celebrity contestant three times.

Betty White (98): Multiple Emmy winner, national treasure, and the host of our hearts.

Donald Trump (74): Well-know Real-estate developer, Executive producer, TV-series host, Author, and Politician.

I'm putting my money on Betty!

I am saddened to learn of Trebeks passing. The guy was such an institution, and died far too young. I saw him recently at the NHL draft in early October, when he announced the Ottawa Senators draft pick Jeopardy style. That was the highlight of the entire draft and that was absolutely unexpected. Here`s the link if you want to take a look:

Thanks...almost expected someone to buzz in and ask!
