Assuming the pandemic ever ends, I would love to do a road trip someday of great cities around the US. For the city that you suggest:
Best tourist spots
Best restaurants
Best nature spots

Not that I’m going to be any help…because for me the best spots are places where loads of people aren’t…but, it would help if you put your preferences in some kind of context:
Best tourist spot: Do you want to rub shoulders with others there to enjoy the best tourist spot, or hobnob with the locals, or a bit of both.
Best restaurants: What kinds of foods are you looking to enjoy: Same old things prepared in different ways? Touristy stuff? Authentic local cuisine? Some try-anything-once fare?
Best nature spots. Do you mean that, or do you want to go full-on this?

For tourist attractions I'm most interested in something that will tell me the history of the area. For restaurants, I would want authentic local cuisine. And for nature, nothing too extreme. Botanical Gardens and the like.

Maui will satisfy all three of the above. The only part of the island that is a bit seedy is the area around the airport but it has been a few years since I've been there, maybe it has changed?

Thank you. Any suggestions for cities you can get to by car?

I just noticed your post said 'continental', sorry Maui isn't exactly 'continental'. When I went we stayed in Kaanapali but really anywhere is driveable. The twisty, winding roads to Hana, the drive up to Haleakalā to watch the sunrise. Lahaina has cool little shops, good restaurants, if you go in early spring there are whale-watching boat tours, the requisite luau's, since they are pretty pricey anyway, choose one at one of the fancier hotels. There are so many things to see around the island. But since I haven't been in quite a while you should check out 'guide books', check their tourist board website, etc.
I chose Maui because it had fewer tourists (on average) than the other islands. It was also the cleanest place I had ever been besides Disneyland. You don't see litter alongside the roads like other places, If I remember the only place I saw anything (cigarette butt) on the ground was in a parking lot in Lahaina. But don't get sick there, their hospital sucks!

If it leaves the ground,
Inside of it Lemons cannot be found.

If it leaves the ground then it's not really "driving" now is it?

I feel like I'm missing some special joke here, however if you would like to do a nationwide tour of paper mills with me I'll pack my nose clips and go whenever you say when!
