Discuție The Big Bang Theory

When I get a salad, I basically eat the toppings off (chicken, cheese, etc.) under a coat of ranch or bleu cheese dressing and maybe a leaf or two of lettuce if it gets caught in the tines of the fork during a chicken bite. So really, I might as well have just eaten ranch-covered chicken. But because it was on a bed of lettuce, I feel like I've eaten a health food. So my question is, does lettuce absolve us of the poor nutritional value of what we place atop it?

Also, are salads boring? There were few meal scenes where Leonard wasn't eating a salad. And Leonard was arguably the most boring character on the show. So was that a writing technique to say that Leonard was boring?

By something akin to the transitive property, if you eat chicken with ranch dressing off of Leonard does that absolve us of the sin of fatty eating?

Eating poppy seeds could be risky for someone in a medical field, if you get random drug tests. Depending on how good the tests are.

Reminds me of this news article:

...U.S. mom has newborn taken away after failed drug test from eating poppy seeds

A friend of mine in High School and college wouldn't eat mushrooms, he called them "sex organs of plants." I'm not sure if that was a reference to their appearance, or how they function in nature.

But was he a fun guy?

Forget the poppy seeds. What about fennel seeds ? Those are intense. Or sunflower seeds. Seeds are for birds and squirels anyways. But I do like a nice roasted pumpkin seed.

In a way, I only add the sunflower seeds and croutons because they help keep the lettuce from sticking together.

I also prefer the small croutons. The large ones just dont work for me. Also the small grape or cherry tomato over slices or chunks of regular sized tomato

For crunchies on top of a salad I like either fried wonton strips or tortilla strips.

As a practicing omnivore, I can assure you that there are no "dull" foods, only dull palates. So you give me a choice of dressing like a baby, eating like a baby, being a drunk or being a grown up. I'll have to think about that. If Leonard is dull, I blame his mother. She systematically destroyed any spark of interest he might have had all in the interest of her studies. I'm just surprised Leonard didn't become a serial killer.

Tim, now that we have established that you love it when I start threads about salads, I hope you will post in some of the other threads I've started lately. I need more Tim in my threads.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Isn't the proper word for lettuce "greens" as in greeny leafy stuff. Saying lettuce sounds cheap. Saying greens sounds colorful. Either way its just glorified grass clippings.

Whar I come from we call it lettuce. Greens are collards or mustard greens or turnip greens. Unless you go to one of them fancy rest'runts whar they call lettuce "greens" and serve craft beer and beer cheese and beer napkins because they are so fancy.

back to the dressings . we discussed ranch but what about thousand Island or green goddess or French or Russian or blue cheese?

1.Thousand Island- no thank you. I used to like it as a child, but outgrew pink pickle sludge.
2.Green goddess- I don't know what this is. Maybe it's not a Southern thing.
3.French- I like French fine but wouldn't choose it unless the only other choice was thousand island.

  1. Russian- Also fine, kind of like French with sparkles in it, but not my first choice.
5.If you trot back up to my OP, you'll see that I also love bleu cheese. I spell it the fancy French way. However, I only like good, homemade, bleu cheese that is creamy and mild. None of that vinegary tasting yuk from a bottle.

What is your favorite dressing?

Green Goddess is a fancy dressing from long ago. It is retro or vintage. I like most if them depending on the salad

What was in Green Goddess? It makes me think of Buddha. Well, Buddhette.
