How are you guys coping with the Coronavirus outbreak. Seems like every few years one of these things pops up out of nowhere.
Now every little sneeze, cough, headache, etc. you or yours have cause you to worry. Even a trip to the market is an in-and-out venture…no leisurely browsing and/or chit-chatting in the aisles with a fellow shopper.
There is a lot of misinformation out there. And, of course, snake oil salesmen and shysters trying to make a quick buck. Then there are the folks who love to hear the sound of their own voice coming out of the woodwork to prey on everyone's fears.
As for me, we've had a longstanding work-at-home policy; so for now no traumatic changes are required. Must say that I’m adhering to the recommendation to avoid crowds as much as possible. I don't have to ride the bus or the train so I've lucked out in that regard.
Anyway...
Stay vigilant.
Stay safe.

Walking through a grocery store at night looking at the empty shelves and people stocking up...brought this to mind

I suppose there has to be some 'levity'?

You may want to check out Avenue 5. It is a “new” HBO series starring Hugh Laurie. It is a comedy set aboard a luxury cruise ship in space, 40 years in the future. It is filled with Monty Python-like humor. While, the easily offended, squeamish, patriotic, religious, family oriented, and those with “tender ears” may bristle at some of the goings-on and the dialogue, the show it is riot. And, it has been renewed for S2.

Schools here (along with just about anything else you can name) have also closed. Schools are scheduled to reopen after the Easter break. But, there has been discussion about students not returning at all this year. Some cities/counties were hemming and hawing about whether to shutdown. Have to hand it to our Governor, he issued a statewide edict that mandated the closure of all schools. No half-stepping; just get 'er done!

They amended it here also to include all schools. All restaurants & bars are also closed to any 'sit-down' customers, takeout only.

Canada just closed it's borders. Only citizens and permanent residents, no foreign nationals. US residents okay for now.

Us poor elderly Brits are being threatened with imprisonment for 14 days and a $1260 fine if we don't self isolate. They are releasing minor crime prisoners early to accommodate these new laws. Apparently if you are younger you can go where you like !! London has seen the greatest spike of any British city so far.

Another, but less panicky, way of saying you are under quarantine.

Using "self isolating" as a euphemism for quarantine is bothersome to me. Is anyone from the authorities is going to make sure these elderly people are visited to check in on their health and safety ? An added potential disaster. That age is the most vulnerable.

I don't blame them. Canada’s numbers are looking pretty good (especially in comparison) right now.
All things considered, you'd think that there would be very little "casual movement" by people; particularly between borders. After all it's almost impossible to get from Point A to Point B anywhere without encountering/interacting with others along the way.
I think the less interchange between countries/states/cities/towns/neighborhoods/whatever…the better.

Judging by the crowds at the casinos, a whole lot of the 65+ don’t needs nobody looking after them.
But, seriously, let’s remember that a lot of the 65+ are still very active…up to and including still in the workforce…look at the talking heads in Washington.
Anyway, the authorities probably can’t carry the entire burden; but, then for some there are relatives, friends, neighbors; then you have your private organizations and volunteers to pitch in. People may fight over toilet paper, but when push-comes-to shove (ha ha) most will lend a helping hand.
Self-isolation is a good thing. Seniors are the ones most likely to catch-and-carry.

For lunch I made myself a grilled cheese sandwich and hot cocoa.
In light of everything that's going on, couldn't help but wonder what Beverly would
about that?

Grilled cheese and hot cocoa? I don't think Sheldon would approve of that combo.

We know Sheldon has set breakfast and dinner rules...but, can't remember him having a meal-of-the-day rule when it comes to lunch.
