Poor Lonely Larry. I'm not sure he's ever had a thread dedicated to him in the history of either message board. Let's take a moment to give him a bit of attention.

1.What is the story behind the brown blazer that he wears in every scene?

2.How could he be lonely? Whenever we see him Captain Sweatpants is right there.

3.Would TBBT have been even better in its later years if it had dedicated some scenes to Dale, Captain Sweatpants and Lonely Larry hanging out?

(1)He’s been lifting some of those 5-pound weights Leonard was talking about and wants to show off his developing physique; but not before he is where he wants to be; so he keeps that jacket on. When he gets there form-wise, then we'll see that jacket come off.

(2)Yes, but Captain Sweatpants won't come home with him. Probably a case of that old saying about being lonely in a crowded room...when all you want is to be alonerelaxedwith one person. (And, if there isn't a saying...there should be.)

(3)Don't think so. The show was only 18 minute-ish or so for a while. The main cast was big enough. Writing for extra nerds would have diluted the storylines and taken too much time away from the main.

Plus, the guys started out where that group is now…then evolved. Can’t see any value, or much humor, in playing up a “new” aren’t-they-just-so-nerdy group.

Even so, I really liked Dale.

1.Maybe so! Though, I will say that the blazer does make him look kind of dapper. A fancy nerd, you might say. tophat

2.I know exactly what you mean.

3.I should have added "if we didn't have to worry about the show only being 18 minutes long" to my original question. relaxed You're exactly right- as the show was, there was not much time to add them in. (Though I do remember feeling that some scenes near the end were just filler and maybe something else would have been more interesting. For example, I would have traded one of Howard and Bernie's tiffs over housework for a Dale/CS/LL scene.) I also think it's possible that some scenes with those three could have satisfied the contingent who felt like the show had turned into Friends.

I knew a geeky guy in school who wore the same coat every day& he got picked on for it. Wonder if he ever washes it maybe thats why he's lonely

Maybe the brown blazer is just what he wears until he goes into a phone booth and changes into his superhero costume. He doesn't have an alliterative name for nothing.

Well Larry, I tried, but as you were overshadowed by Sheldon and the gang in the show, you were overshadowed in life by the coronavirus.

Or maybe you're just boring.

We'll go with the coronavirus.

(Thanks to FKA and treebark for your thoughts. Larry appreciates them.)

Larry's superhero identity is The Brown Blazer. Just like Captain Sweatpants is exactly that. They don't need a phonebooth or fancy outfit. Dale aka D.A.L.E. or Dynamic Awesome Lethargic Employee is the comic book stores secret weapon whose power is filling in when Denise and Stuart are at a wedding or social function. Larry, Captain, and Dale together are the Terrific Three sometimes joined by Bert and Lucy. Whenever there is a nerd card game to be played who ya gonna call ?

So Larry's super power is "available guy for a card game"? I'll buy that, for lack of evidence that he has any greater powers. But what if, instead of a super hero he is really a super villain? Do we know who broke into Sheldon and Leonard's apartment that time? Do we know who released the dog to chase Sheldon and his hot dogs? Do we know who allowed Leslie Winkle to be a character on TBBT? It could ALL be the work of Larry!

"available guy for a card game" is a good cover.

They could all be super villians. Nerds of Prey!

Yes! I think it would be more interesting for Larry, Captain Sweatpants (forevermore abbreviated in this thread as CS) and Dale to be villains. Gosh, we could tie all kinds of things to them!

For months the Terrible Trio whispered "Cut your hair...cut your hair..." into Penny's ear as she slept. (sinister music playing in the background...)

And who stole Sheldon's stuff at the bus station in Bozeman Montana? Could it be...

I can just see Dale ordering a hit on Sheldon's stuff- all wide eyed and laughing goofily. (He had to order the hit rather than stealing it himself because stealing is hard.)

Who burnt down Stuart's first comic store in order to get a bigger, better one and framed it as a hot plate that caught fire??

I think the Terrible Trio needs a theme song. Any ideas?

Who else was is in Todd Zarnecki's house when he stole Sheldon's imaginary stuff?

I bet if we looked into Zarnecki's past a little further, we'd find that Larry, CS and Dale are old friends of his! They were probably in the room when he stole Glenn the Battle Ostrich!

Here is one suggestion for their theme song. Good and dastardly sounding.

Anyone else have suggestions? Z? Tim? FKA? Wonder2wonder? Knixon? Bratface? Person I'm forgetting? Person who is lurking but doesn't want to speak up but I know you're there and I wish you would? BLT?

The NoP version of Heroic Questing Music. No Beyonce for them.

There is always this classic.

Also, who do you think talked the landlords of the apartment complex out of fixing the elevator for over 12 straight years?
