I have noticed that the lighting in some new shows is extremely dim. The two specific shows I'm referring to are Mindhunter and Ozark, both of which I've just started watching. I'm sure the dark lighting is, in part, to set the mood. But I wonder, too, if it's supposed to make the show appear somewhat slick, minimalist and trendy.
Well I don't like it! To watch these shows we have to turn up the brightness on the TV and turn out some of the lights in the room just to see what's going on. Kudos to TBBT characters for not sulking around in the dark!
What do you say about this low-lighting epidemic?

You just answered the post I completely deleted and re-wrote.
Hee, hee.
I may have earned some tickling there, or whatever you do to people who are too sassy.

To make it clear to the other 2 people who might be following, Lemons said one of my previous posts had words that made sense in the beginning and then had words that fell in a pile on top of each other. As much as I can correctly remember.

Watching something in low lighting engages the senses more. It makes people concentrate harder, look more attentively at what’s going on, and to actively listen to the dialogue.
Ominous music tends to have the same effect thing.
Comedies are (usually) very lite fare; and, so, have the lighting to match.

I'm sure at least 3 people are following. You, me and that 3rd person who will never admit to it.

Also very good points that I hadn't thought of. However, if they make the scenes much darker they might as well return to the days of radio shows.

If they had television in The Little House on the Prairie Days the sets would be lit by beeswax candles. Or candles made from tallow or lard. Or just shot out in the actual prairie on a sunny day.

So if a production hand said, "Hand me that big fat candle" they could be referring both to its girth, and it's composition!

I could tell you about vending machines in Japan, but you probably don't want to know.

I'm going to start calling your Tease-xon! Except that looks hard to pronounce and like saliva might get caught in your throat trying to say it.
First a tease in The Orville thread and then here?
Don't think I can't still put you in the corner just because this is a different board.
