I've seen a lot of these, and I take care of a bunch myself, but I've never seen one so hungry that it was eating bits of gravel.

Good for you Knixon, for taking care of rescues! My little orange tabby is one.

I have an orange tabby myself now too. In the past I've had others, some with bits of white mixed in. But this one is all orange. One of my grandmothers believed that orange cats on average are the smartest, and I would have to agree. Although she might have changed her mind if she'd ever met a Maine Coon.
A neighbor has two more orange tabbies that were born outside her front door. They live inside now. Sadly, their mother who insisted on remaining outside, was killed by a stray dog on New Year's Eve. She was all orange too, which is pretty rare.

My tabby is orange and white. It looks like she's wearing an orange tuxedo. I was told that female orange tabbies are rare. Not sure if that's true.

Genetically, as I understand it, an orange female can only result when both mother and father are orange. Orange males are much less rare.

Well, I won't make my cat aware of this. She'd milk it for all it was worth.
"Give me more graaaaaavy than that! I'm raaaaare!"
"Someone as rare as me should get more crunchy treats than this!"
I'd never hear the end of it!

Cats already know how special they are, I'm not sure if that would really make much difference.
