讨论 The Big Bang Theory

$27.4B is the amount the NRF estimate people will spend this year on Valentine gifts.

IN ORDER:

  1. Spouse/Significant other
  2. Other family members
  3. Friends/Children's classmates/Teachers
  4. Co-workers
  5. Pets
  6. Others

Don’t know who these “Others” are; but, I’m guessing they are people. Does anyone find it strange that these people rank lower on someone’s gift_heart list than animals?

Anyway, for the procrastinators among us, it’s not too early to start looking for that “tiara”-like gift.

I am going to guess "others" could be people like hairdressers, mailmen, etc. Not close friends, but people you do see on a recurring basis. In which case yes, I'd be more likely to give my cat a Valentine than someone like that.

If Tim-buktu were still on this board I would give him a plate of brownies.

Nice thought.

But, if Tim-buktu is from Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, or Washington; probably bakes his own—daily.

🤣

As for 'others', maybe they are referring to a 'mistress'? Also, why would someone give a 'Valentines' gift to a pet? Seems a bit creepy?

Guess some of us look at them and see pouting_cat dog2 while others look at them and see cat2 poodle. Whatever the reasons, retailers love that kind of love; especially this time of the year when it is expected to add an additional $1.5B to their coffers.

As for “mistress”…yes, that is someone you’d buy a Valentine gift for; but, it is not a word you’d ever put out there in the universe…even if you knew it was going under something as benign as “Others”.

Must admit I chuckled when I read that "cat" comment. Then I picked up "TIME" (02/03/2020) and read an article about a guy who sued his Ex for visitation rights for their two dogs. It cost him over $15K in legal fees; but he won. Now he gets to visit with "Marox" and "Winnie" every Tuesday and Wednesday.

I’ve always thought that the “fight over the family pet” was less about how much someone loved their pet, and more about how much they hated their Ex.

Anyway, the article made me curious so I checked online. I was shocked by the amounts some folks claimed to have paid out in pet-custody battles. And, I was even more shocked upon seeing clips (and ads) promoting “Pup-Nups”.

Pup-Nups!? Maybe pet-love outweighs Ex-hate after all.
