In the days before people could hear their own voices via recordings, did everyone think their voice was better than everyone else's?

I think so too. It seems inevitable.
It's been said that Lincoln had a rather high, whiney/nasally voice. But maybe like Sheldon Cooper, Lincoln thought he sounded like James Earl Jones.

I was surprised to hear how low my voice was/is.

You mean, you really DO sound like James Earl Jones?

¯_(ツ)_/¯ I have no idea what any of those symbols mean. Hopefully, I didn't say/imply anything naughty?

No idea. Maybe Lemonz can interpret them in some naughty way.

I found a new 'emoji' program that includes these symbols, but they are the only things that DO NOT have a description when you hover over them.

This site might only recognize its own emojis, from the list you get after typing a : character.

If you run Windows, just hit the 'win' & 'period' keys at the same time. You will see what I mean. I've never really liked this sites 'emoji' program (it's a pain in the tush).

Oh, I don't use keyboards with Windows keys. They get in the way, take too much from the space bar, get hit when I don't mean to... That's a particular issue with some programs such as action games, having a menu pop up when you're trying to "fire"...

You are making the assumption that people were deaf before recordings were invented. People could hear themselves talk.
Also Abraham Lincoln's voice was neither high nor low. I've heard him talk before. He just sounded like someone wearing a hat.

Yes, they could hear themselves talk. But of course they didn't hear themselves the way other people heard them. That was the point.
