Debate The Big Bang Theory

Now that TBBT is over, I figured we'd need some OT's to keep the board community going, in amongst our continued discussions of the show.

Is there a TV show that "everyone" loves/loved that you've never watched? If yes, which one(s) and why not?

I've never watched a single episode of Friends, Seinfeld or Game of Thrones. The first two I did not watch on purpose because I usually buck all that seems trendy, and the few snippets of Seinfeld I saw (like as I walked through the room while my husband was watching) just didn't seem funny to me. As for GoT, I don't have HBO. I do hope to watch it someday, though, because I do suspect I'd love it.

What are poof bangs ? I would have expected 90s Lemons to have a "Rachel" (that is a Friends reference for you) Or whatever the Spice Girls wore.

Well, if we were just emailing private I'd send you a pic so you could see what I mean (pssst...by the way check your old emails fella...I sent you one with some Queen-related info in it like 47 years ago), but since we're not, it means I had (somewhat) big hair. Those were the hair band days, you know. And as I never watched Friends, I was not a Rachel worshipper. As for what the Spice Girls wore I don't have much recollection, but I did like that song "Say You'll Be There" and remember the first time I ever saw the video. I was a little hurt, though, that I had been left out of the group.

Hey, they were the Spice Girls, not the Citrus Girls! If you wanted to be in there you should have changed your name. grinning Or start The Citrus Girls! (And you can't be just the Fruit Girls because Bananarama already has claim to that section.)

I guess you could have asked Evan Dando to join Lemonheads. grinning

I refuse to perform with oranges. And don't get me started on grapefruits.

What about Blind Melon? Melon is even an anagram for Lemon!

I just know that I cantaloupe. My parents would never forgive me if I skipped town and got married. Come to think of it, my husband wouldn't like that either.

I've never seen a single ep of "Game of Thrones" or of "Buffy". Neither of those seemed to appeal to me.

Which is odd because I've absolutely loved History Channel's drama "Vikings." The bloodiest TV show I've ever followed and I consider it my soap opera.

Buffy can be pretty entertaining. You might benefit from seeing the movie first, but then you might wonder how Buffy suddenly got so short and small. (Sarah Micelle Gellar in the series versus Kristy Swanson in the movie.)

It can take a certain kind of mood, though. Buffy is not 100% serious all the time, especially in the earlier seasons.

Actually, it was the movie that put me off of checking out the TV series. In the days of VHS rentals, the place I went had it in the comedy section, which combined with the apparent premise led me to expect a deliberately stupid comedy such as you might see Mel Brookes or Leslie Nielsen doing. Finally on a Halloween when I felt especially facetious, I rented it on a lark and was sorely disappointed to see that it was serious about it's premise, even though the scariest vampire was played by the same guy as Pee Wee Herman.

It took "Firefly" for me to go ahead and like Joss Whedon after that.

Well the series is different from the movie. Since you've already seen the movie, maybe that would make the series easier for you to enjoy.

And what the heck, you can get started for free!

That version seems like it might be sped up just a bit, but the other version I found is slowed down a bit, and the video is reversed.

I've had some degree of interest in watching Vikings. In part because I have pretty strong Scandinavian family history (which I only recently learned!) and also my sister said it was good. Does it lean more heavily to the side of history or fiction?

I’ve never watched Lost, Fringe or The Sopranos .

I've never watched any of them either. But I'm glad to see you back on this board again. I was startin' to miss you.

Buffy? ......So did you love it?? Of course you loved it - how could you not love it!...tell me how much you loved it! "It was cute."

I wouldn't say I loved it, but it was good. And it got more involved and more serious in the later seasons.

Oh, was Fringe "wildly popular?" I must have missed the excitement. I know a couple people who liked it a lot, but it never felt "wildly popular."

I passed on those as well. Did start The Sopranos but only made it a few episodes. Probably need to try again. Also gave Thrones 1 1/2 seasons and...meh.
I was a big fan of Buffy but oddly have yet to see the final episode. Watched every other one. Kinda weird. Saving it for some reason. It was neat to see Sarah in the BB finale. There's an episode in Buffy season 5 where she loses...a character close to her and Sarah pulls off the most intense 5 minutes I have ever seen by an actor.
