Hm, not sure I could have gotten into the show as much as I did if I disliked Howard and Sheldon. When I have recommended this show it is always with the caveat - - if after 5 minutes you can't stand Sheldon, don't bother.

That was why I really didn't get into the show on a regular basis. I would watch the reruns & if Sheldon was the focus I would put the TV on mute.
Ha. Well, there was something about Jerry Seinfeld that didn't click with me when that show was originally on but because of re-runs something finally did. Now I have lots of Seinfeld's I've yet to see.

I understand your dislike of Sheldon but don't understand how you can watch the show and avoid him. He is always there and you could be missing a good rare take down of Sheldon by one of the others.
The other two were quite funny at times, but the humor was 'self deprecating', so not as funny?
Bernie
Amy
I tried putting the guys way, way down (so far down they would be on a different page), but with the sites ridiculous formatting it wouldn't let me.
Howard
Sheldon
I guess it just depends on what tickles your funnybone. I liked all of the characters and found them all funny, but the quirky and outlandish things that Sheldon and pre-Bernie Howard would say made me laugh much harder than the things the more "normal" characters said. Keep in mind, though- that doesn't mean I'd want to hang out with someone like Sheldon or old Howard in real life. I just think their characters were so out of touch with reality that what they said was hilarious from that standpoint.

I kind of understand your point of view, but Sheldon was somebody that made me really angry (also at the others for letting him act the way he did). He never had to take responsibility for the awful things he said or did. Everybody always made excuses for him.
Maybe that's a bigger problem for people who didn't start with the beginning, when seeing Sheldon just once a week for less than half a year, is easier to take. If you started late and binge-watched a bunch in a row, I can see how Sheldon could become too much.
But whichever is the case, the opening theme for MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000) might be helpful:
Actually it's hard to say who was funniest, as the funny comes from the interactions between characters.
I think that's a very good point, Bob. These are two of my favorite Howard scenes from the whole series, but they're not just funny because Howard says them, they're funny because he says them to Penny.

The take-downs of Sheldon weren't all that rare, one of the best things about the show.

The funniest person in the show was Daphne of Scooby Doo, I mean Buffy, I mean Sarah Michelle Gellar for actually going to the ceremony with Raj.

Yes, that's why I especially don't agree with those who say Jim Parsons/Sheldon is the funniest. His character only allowed others to be funny.

Sheldon ,albeit unintentionally.
