Decades from now you are in a public place and TBBT is brought up. Some kid asks, "Everyone says that show was so good. Was it really? What was so special about it?"
What would you say?

"Well, it's no Star Trek, but I enjoyed it."

It would have been so much better without Sheldon!

That might work too.
Actually I should revise my answer. "Well, it's no Star Trek or Babylon 5, but I enjoyed it."

To Knixon and bratface: Thanks for your answers! I'm always glad when people chime in.
I think decades from now, when the details of the show have started to fade, Sheldon will still come to mind when people bring it up, whether in a good way or bad.

Just remember, the 2-part finale, possible crossover of Young Sheldon, and the recap "Unraveling The Mystery," are TOMORROW!!! Thursday!

I know! I've got my hankies ready. I do hope some of our other former posters might join us at least temporarily to discuss the finale.

My own answer to the OP: TBBT was special in that it showed that nerds can live fulfilling lives- both personally and professionally. (Some of the later seasons were less funny, but were necessary to play this out.) TBBT helped to show that being nerdy and smart are not bad things, but actually are good things that can translate to success down the road in many areas.
In short, TBBT helped make nerds cool.

But it did show that being an asshole without any consequences was cool too?

And I would say "ERICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
So glad to see you back! I'm loving that a few more of us are descending here again for the finale and hope to see even more old timers from IMDb.

You mean that show that was just like Friends? Wait what do you mean what was Friends? Ok then it was that show that was just like Firefly but went on a lot longer. Hey what do you mean what was Firefly? You future people don't know anything about good television. What do you mean what was television? Well this 20 years in the future place really sucks. Now I am going to go back in my cool future car and meet up with Stuart and Denise.
20 years from now

Maybe twenty years from now, all that will be left are 2 dimensions and line segments and when the line segments try to talk they'll just sound like the adults on Charlie Brown so we won't really know what they're saying.
That made sense.
Regardless in 20 years, unless my brain stops working which some days it feels like it's on its way, I will remember that Znex could be particularly Znexyish.

Well, I thought it was a bit foolish of them to assume the building would still be there in 20 years.
Although if it was still there, then Sheldon might still be living there.
And the other apartments will be occupied by his and Amy's children in various stages of experimentation.

The building just moved over to Sheldonopolis
