讨论 Teorie velkého třesku

I’ve been wondering for a while now: “What Happened”?—And, these waning days of Board activity seem like a good time to ask.

In the old days an OP could merely introduce a topic on the Board—just about any topic—and posters would jump on it and discuss it ToHellAndBack. Now, unless the OP “warms” up the discussion by asking a specific question(s), or asks for a POV, the Thread will likely die a lonely, neglected death.

1) Has anyone else noticed the above ‘trend’? (On this Board, or others?)

If so...

2) Why? What do you think killed the art of "cold" discussion?

I don't know what to say. The less posters the less chance of getting replies. This board is down to three at the least. Has the novelty and excitement of posting itself faded away? Is there only so much to say about the topics ?

Yes; that's true--but, don't mean recently--been that way for a while.

I noticed it early on when @Lemon would usually add a list of questions in the body of a Thread. Then others started doing the same. Response-wise, those Threads with questions generally seem to do better comment-wise than those without questions.

As for: "only so much to say about the topics"...

Yeah--that I can see. After all, when it comes to many topics, there are bound to be those who figured they’ve already “picked those bones clean” discussion-wise; so will not initiate any commentary; but will answer if asked.

Re: The board being down to three--yeah, mostly (even though there are still a warm-body or two that pop in from time-to-time; depending...).

Lemons has retired from posting and I believe because of the very point you bring up: the lack of discussion. I have been on other topics and sites and there is so little back and forth it seems not worth it to revisit. Even the music thread which used to be pretty active would disappear if not for you putting up songs now and then. Also it takes a special kind of poster to list specific and interesting questions enough to gain a good discussion. Now if I said something happened in an episode that happened in a different episode then good old Knixon with his line by line knowledge would pipe in with a correction wink

I am hoping that more of the crowd here will come back as the series winds down.

I was hoping this board would eventually grow. Not the the IMDB levels, but maybe even 60%. However, this site just doesn't have the traffic. I think slowly but surely, people have just stopped coming here. I know I did. But I've had a lot of things going on. Starting a new project, and have had several issues with the family that have required attention. I just don't have the time I used to have.
That said, I do miss the old days on IMDB. But when that site shut down their chat rooms - they essentially scattered people in many different directions. I still refuse to even go to IMDB unless absolutely necessary. It's a shame because, even with the trolls, that was a great community. But this isn't IMDB. Not even close. TBBT page was active for awhile, but other pages, even for popular shows, were DOA. No real 'community' here.

I may pop in from time to time, but I think after TBBT ends, so does this page. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

That's also my take on it.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

It occurred to me later that your previous statement about the low number of poster is the key. That is, with so few posters (even at the beginning) maybe we just talked-each-other-out; and with no new-blood coming aboard for added “range,” discussions just stalled. "New Bloods"--especially the ones who bring new/different perspectives to the game have a way of invigorating even old topics.

Anyway...

...for as long as it lasts v_tone1 .

As great as the old site could be it was also pretty trying at times. The arguments that went on an on, the tangents that derailed threads, the random elimination of perfectly acceptable threads, and the odd personal conversations that some posters engaged in. Sometimes I was surprised to see that it held on so successfully.
