Bernie's Quest For "Gamer" Skills?

What was the big deal with Bernie trying to beat Howwie in “Fortnite”? It wasn’t as if he was boasting about how great he was at the game. Did she just have a “B” moment because he was so engaged with Raj and not her? You’d think she’d be used to that by now.
Really don’t understand what ticked her off enough to send her on a quest for gamer skills to best Howwie.

Because Plot? I suppose The Writers That Be may have felt they needed SOME "reason" to tell the story they wanted to tell.
Of course, one of the themes of the show all along has been that Bernadette is very competitive. Often with no real reason for it. Other than her attitudes about being short.

Plus it gave Denise something to do without Stuart being around. Kind of a girls get to know each other moment. It wasn't the first time Bernie or Penny went to the comic book store for nerd advice.
