Just Returned From The DMV...

How did this group ever get such ascreamrep? I had been 😓 this undertaking since last week; but, finally had to JustDoIt!

Shame on comedians (especially) for making these workers out to be such 👹👹.

Contrary to every comedian's AND every sitcom's depiction, they were helpful--with a well-organized and efficient setup. AND; even though I had a “ding” on two of my forms--I was not stripped, tarred-and-feather; then cast into the pits of you-know-where.

Time to stop hatin’ on the DMV! ok_hand_tone1

I think it might have something to do with what state you are in? But it's also a tired 'trope' about government/civil service employees being horrible people & that would have to commit murder before they could be fired? But I have run into my share of asshole DMV workers, there have also been pleasant ones.

Yeah.

And, I guess there aren’t many laughs to be had with a DMV joke where the punchline ends with helpful, organized, and efficient.

How true.

Sometimes it can end up basically mostly being happenstance, too. In the area where I live, the DMV (or MVD here) offices used a call-your-number type of system. There was a huge single "waiting room" and a constant drone of "Now serving X12345 at window 321..."

But then one day, as (mis?)fortune would have it, that system broke down. And it was going to take at least 2 days, I think it was, for the company to get it repaired.

So the people in the office - actually supporting the "helpful, organized, efficient" bit- came up with their own "manual" system to get by in the meantime. And it worked so well, and so much better (and less noisy!) that they still use it now. I was there again just last week, it was quiet and fast, and there was no throng of people waiting, children running wild...

I think it might be very different if I lived in Los Angeles, or Chicago, or D.C.... and for that matter, the Social Security office in my area is (still) a cesspool.

Yours too? I hate the one in my area. First you have to walk through a metal detector & then have some creep paw through your things & have another creep use the wand after you have already gone through the detector? There are a lot of chairs but all are usually filled & people standing around the perimeter. Last time I 'visited' I asked the guy who was going to paw through my things to put on NEW gloves BEFORE he touched my things. You'd think that I asked him to cut off his right arm. He said he would use some hand sanitizer instead. Anyway, I really do not like being around a bunch of strangers so I moved back by one of the unused interview windows. I was there for about 20 minutes before one of the 'fake' security guys came over & told me to move back into the room, I told him I felt uncomfortable & would stay where I was. He insisted that I was invading peoples privacy although that area wasn't being used. Thank goodness my name was called & I had no further contact with creep (although when I was leaving I told him what a rude sob he was. I told the lady who was helping me & she said next time I could just move back to the back area of the facility.
