Sheldon and Amy received a much re-gifted wedding present.
I've always felt that re-gifting is tacky and a tad disrespectful in that it gives the impression that the giver doesn’t value the recipient(s) enough to make the effort (or in some case spend the money). Even when it’s an event you must attend, or a gift you must give—even if you rather not—re-gifting is still not OK.
I think that when you receive a gift you don’t want/can’t use it’s better to donate it to a worthy cause. At least then it will be taken by someone who wants/needs it; and not because they’ve had it dumped on them.
What say you?
1) Is re-gifting OK under any circumstances?
2) Have you ever received a re-gifted present/how did you feel?
3) Would it bother you if someone re-gifted a present you gave them?
4) Should any of the above be dependent on the value (sentimental or otherwise) of the gift?

I'm not liking the crappy green color (although it's barely a color?) block around our name.

I took it for granted that my preface sentence ("Sheldon and Amy received a much re-gifted wedding present.") would direct posters to the particular subject matter being discussed.
But, I guess, to anyone just reading the title, its inexplicitness could leave to the intent of the Thread being open to interpretation.
After all, there is a lot of truth to the old adage: “If all you have is a hammer….”
Even so, now that you know what the discussion is really about—What say you?

Sheldon's Theory of Gift Giving:
"The entire institution of gift giving make no sense. Let's say that I go out, and I spend 50 dollars on you, it's a laborious activity, because I have to imagine what you need, where as you know what you need. Now I could simplify things, just give you the 50 dollars directly, and you could give me 50 dollars on my birthday, and so on, until one of us dies, leaving the other one old and 50 dollars richer. And I ask, is it worth it?"
Episode: The Bath Gift Item Hypothesis
This could have all changed over the seasons and he might have a different theory now. For example the few gifts he has given out over time. Some one else here will have to list those as I am exhausted just thinking about this.

Are you in the 'wrong thread'?

It's always exhausting to think about Sheldon. As his friends know all too well. And it seems particularly odd for Sheldon to not ascribe any particular value to the time spent on selecting a gift, beyond the dollar cost of the item itself. (Which, I'll remind those who don't remember, was $0 for the autographed napkin that Penny gave to Sheldon in that episode. Yet he responded by giving her ALL of those baskets, PLUS a hug!)

I think that when Penny gave Sheldon the autographed napkin his Sheldon-ness was temporarily short circuited hence the sudden gift giving frenzy. Sheldon also gave Ms. Davis the "Roots" DVDs. and Amy a Star Trek DVD set but those two incidents had ulterior motives behind them, they weren't pure gift giving.

And the "Roots" DVD set was just what we saw him give. His next stop was giving a boxed set of Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movies to Dr Wu, or something.
