What are your plans for celebrating this grand day?
A suggestion from another site...
"The best and easiest way to celebrate Star Trek Day is simply taking the time to marathon the original series."
Not a bad idea, but I think I'd rather spend some quality time with two of my favorite characters:
So; unlike purists, who no doubt will be watching TOS,--I'll be taking in a newbie movie or two or....

Well I guess I'm the opposite of a Star Trek purist. Perhaps is that a Star Trek ignoramus? But I would still like to participate in your thread. Can you explain to me the history behind today being Star Trek day? I know that May 4th is Star Wars day and I know why, but I don't know anything about Star Trek day.

The first episode of Star Trek: The Original Series "The Man Trap" aired on 8 September 1966.

Not watching it? I wasn't a fan of the OS (too hokey). I didn't become a fan of Star Trek until 'Next Generation'.

I don't know that would take an awful lot of time what with 79 original episodes plus the original rejected pilot. Plus I wouldn't want to limit Star Trek to just one series and not even include any of the movies. So much Star Trek .

What’s cutting edge one day can seem hokey the next. Not a bad thing, because it merely means that ideas-actions-dialogues that were once considered so ground-breaking are simply taken for granted now.
Anyway...
As a previous poster said: "So much Star Trek"--I'm glad you found something that you like.

It reminded of early Doctor Who (although it was even worse). I didn't like Doctor Who until the 9th Doctor (Christopher Eccleston). Absolutely loved the 10th, didn't care for the 11th (Smith). I haven't really seen any of the 12th (Capaldi). I think I'll get the episodes from the library & give them a go.

You are over
.
Going the marathon route was someone else's idea of a good time.
But, as you said, there is “So much Star Trek”. I know trying to pick just one makes you feel like a kid in a candy store; but even so—everyone has a favorite (and if you have the time—a couple of favorites).
There is no wrong choice.
