In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

It hasn't been twelve seasons, YET.
Yes, looks like he got a bit ahead of himself there. Perhaps they've already started filming season 12 so he was including it in his quote.
Beyond crushed. I know the show isn't the same as the early years, but I enjoy our Thursday evening with the gang. I'll miss this show deeply. And I don't see much on the traditional networks that could possibly step up to replace it.
Just saw this, literally seconds after posting my other new thread. Sorry to flood the board, but figured everyone would want to see this.
I read few articles that said it's ending because Jim wants to leave, all speculation of course.
I think it's over because they're starting to ask for too much money , and the ratings no longer justify the production cost or cast salaries.
Like they say, pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered.
A classic way to cut ties without actually quitting...
That is, instead of it being: "make them an offer they can't refuse"--it's make them an offer they can't help but refuse.
I always liked one of Faith's lines in a Buffy episode: "I made him an offer he couldn't survive."
And there was this exchange, about a courier who was wearing a briefcase that was handcuffed to his wrist, which Faith was going to get at using a knife:
Vamp: "That won't cut through steel."
Faith: "No, but it'll cut through bone."

Why did people quoted in that article, talk like season 12 is already over?

Maybe they've started. But that terminology doesn't work for just started, either. It's appropriate for after it's done.

Yes it should properly say during the past eleven seasons as it is only those that are in the past. The twelfth and final season is still to be.

Apparently it's over because Jim wants out

I highly doubt they would end it if the star wanted to continue; best of luck to the whole cast in future endeavors but I'm not happy.
