Discuss The Big Bang Theory

The only episodes I enjoy anymore are the reruns where someone royally sticks it to Sheldon. The rest of them only make me want to murder him. I'll try watching the last season, but I'm not hopeful. I maintain that, in reality, he would need a bodyguard. Otherwise he'd have been neaten to death before he turned 25.

St Elsewhere finale was May 1988. Bobby "returned" to Dallas Sept 86. But Dallas was just a one-season "reset." St Elsewhere threw all 137 episodes down the crapper. It wasn't even like a regular character's one-season dream or something. (And, I should add, the Dallas spin-off series Knot's Landing continued as though Bobby was still dead.)

I know it's a 'tired' plot but I want some way for Sheldon to get his comeuppance in a meaningful way. He has tortured everybody on this show from the beginning (yes I know they let him get away with it most of the time), so he should have to learn a really hard lesson in the end.

But Sheldon doesn't really learn a lesson if it was all just his fever dream or something.

I said to a co-worker once, "I think Sheldon is a great [funny] character, but in real life--"

And she finished my sentence by saying, "--you'd kill him."

So, yeah, I think for a television character Sheldon is hilarious-- and let's be honest, some of the things he says to people, especially when dealing with stupidity, are things that we'd all probably like to say, but social convention (oh, there's a Sheldon term!) prevents us --but in real life, he'd be permanently homeless and/or friendless.

Yes the character Sheldon is hilarious in many ways, but people still make a mistake when they claim he's the focus of the show. It's always been about Leonard and Penny's relationship and the obstacles they've had to overcome both in the past and still now, and Sheldon was and is probably the biggest of those.

But is Sheldon able to learn anything. Sure we could throw the Sheldon equivalent of chocolate at him like he did to Penny that one time. I don't think he could change permanently. If he only stayed in Boseman, Montana. Then the townsfolk would probably cast him out eventually. I would hope that he treats Amy better from now on.

If he doesn't, she'll just have to phone his mother to set him straight.
