If a butterfly were to land on Sheldon's nose, what would he do?
Just kidding. Name one portion of the storyline which if deleted would have a major effect on the overall arc. Then name one portion which if deleted would probably have little to no effect.
Mine:
Major: Howard and Raj signing Sheldon up for online dating...and the dirty sock.
Minor: The guys fighting over the Lord of the Rings ring.

Howard making that pact with Leonard if Leonard ever had a girlfriend he would have to hook Howard up with one of her friends or something like that.
If a butterfly landed on Sheldon's nose he would freak out more than he did when the blue bird landed in the apartment. Especially if Amy was not there to do something about it. Plus he ended up liking the blue bird, named her Lovey Dovey and petted the bird. Now birds are soft and feathery while Butterflys are just weird flying bugs. So I see Sheldon trying to swat it away and hitting himself in the nose.

That is indeed a good example of a portion of the storyline that would have made a big difference if deleted.
I would also like to posit that removing Lovey Dovey from the show would not have had a great effect on the overall arc.
Now what if Sheldon landed on a butterfly?

That would either have to be a larger than Sheldon butterfly or a crushed by Sheldon butterfly in which case he and Amy would have to hold a butterfly funeral unless it was a super strong titanium armored butterfly.

Funny you should mention titanium. I was thinking the same thing myself before I even read your post. I guess that's no real surprise, though, since our brains sometimes perform the same intriguing loop-de-loops.
If Sheldon were to land on an iron butterfly, would it scream IN A GADDA DA VIDA?

Major - "Bark Hamill".
Minor - "Toby the Cricket".
If a butterfly lands on Sheldon's nose--let's hope he is wearing his "bus pants".

I suppose there really isn't any such thing as a butterfly effect on a TV show since the writers control "what affects what". Still the theory has always intrigued me.
As for the bus pants, I wonder if Sheldon also has train pants and restaurant pants? The bus is not the only place Sheldon sits where others have sat before!
And of no importance except it ties into this thread, I own pajama pants that have creatures on them that look like half bumblebee/half butterfly. So those are my mutant butterfly pants.

Too roundabout, I guess. Was really going for--pants Sheldon wouldn’t mind getting soiled.

Yes, I actually knew what you meant and it gave me quite a laugh! But it did lead me to look up the original meaning behind the bus pants.

That's one time. I can think of at least 2 others right offhand.
The Big Bear Precipitation (drops his pants to be checked for ticks)
The Recollection Dissipation (loses his pants after a cough-medicine night at the country-western bar)

Clearly Sheldon likes pulling his pants down if that's one of his go-tos when his inhibitions go down.

Either that or a fear thing. He wasn't at all intoxicated for Big Bear, just hyper-worried about ticks.
