So it has been revealed that Kathy Bates and Teller (of the magician team Penn and Teller if the name alone doesn't pull a rabbit out of your hat) I suppose Teller is okay for the line or two he might get but I am not taken with Kathy Bates all that much. I liked the mousy version played briefly by Anne O'Donnel but I fear that Bates will be brassy and loud another Meemaw/Pennys brother fiasco (at least to me). I don't need some celebrity face to tune in to the wedding anyways. Does this mean that Penn is going to show up some time as well. wedding

Teller is a really interesting casting choice . I would have went with Craig Anton.

I don't know Bates from comedy; but, she is one of the few actress I can watch in anything because I know that regardless of the material--TV/movie/whatever--she IS going to be outstanding in the role. She is one of so few--I look forward to seeing her. (Even so, I liked the original actress we saw as Amy's mom. In addition to being quite quirky herself; her being so much older would explain a lot about her old-fashioned way of raising Amy.)

As for Teller, I'll admit that I had to look up the team to find out which-was-which; but I have heard/and seen them some. Everything about Teller's persona shouts quirky. He reminds me of the old, silent movies comedians who, without saying a word, could make you joy just by their reaction to whatever is going on in a scene. Looking forward to watching him play off Bates.

Funny thing about Penn and Teller: their gimmick is that he's the silent one and Penn does all the talking, but they've admitted out of character that Teller is actually very outgoing and talkative and Penn is the one who keeps to himself.

That probably would be hilarious to watch--simply because it would be so unexpected.

Even though we know an actor is playing a role—don’t think it’s unusual to wonder how much of/if any of their personality blends with their character’s. I’m not talking about star-struck-stalkers who think the actor IS the character. I'm talking about sane people who can separate fact from fiction--but still wonder.
